The Seed Lyrics

It's not a memory core that I am here today
Life has been been so cold
But I'm not typical
I mean a long long time
I go I should have died
But see my blood's on fire
I can't help but survive
I never ran away
I done being afraid
Put it on my name
No matter what the stakes
Look it in the face of danger
'Cause sun has never been a stranger

I was the seed planted by lovers
In a refugee camping over seas
I grew free I grew more roots
And became a tree
So now they never gonna cut me down
Oh no, they never gonna cut me down
Oh no, they never gonna cut me down
Oh no, they never gonna, never gonna

My skin is black and green
Nothing you haven't seen
You know my history I stand for victory
They turn their backs to me
They taking x to me
I got my wait up now
Nothing can knock me down

I never ran away
I done being afraid
Put it on my name
No matter what the stakes
Look it in the face of danger
'Cause sun has never been a stranger

I was the seed planted by lovers
In a refugee camping over seas
I grew free I grew more roots
And became a tree
So now they never gonna cut me down
Oh no, they never gonna cut me down
Oh no, they never gonna cut me down
Oh no, they never gonna, never gonna

Oh a oh e I know how
Oh a oh e I survive now
(Oh a oh e I know how
Oh a oh e I survive now)
Oh a oh e I know how
Oh a oh e I survive now
(Oh a oh e I know how
Oh a oh e I survive now)

I was the seed planted by lovers
In a refugee camping over seas
I grew free I grew more roots
And became a tree
So now they never gonna cut me down
Oh no, they never gonna cut me down
Oh no, they never gonna cut me down
Oh no, they never gonna never gonna

Cover art for The Seed lyrics by K'naan

I think it means that even in his hard times in life he didnt give up. Even in critical situations he managed life. He is not like other ones, who would give life up, if they were in his situations. Someday the sun will show its face again. Someday life becomes better. But i don’t think that he only talk about the problems in his homeland Somalia, I think its meant generally. I think its meant for all life situations, that he was going through.

Even though he was born in an insecure place, he got through the terrible times and he got stronger and stronger with every difficulty. Now nothing can bring him down anymore. He grows like a tree, his roots became stronger and now he is a tree, which can withstand all the things that are happening. He compares himself with the tree, which is placed in a rough area.

‘My skin is black and green’ refers to the tree. There is nothing that he hasn’t seen yet. His life is victory. He has managed life well. He doesn’t mind if other people turn their backs to him, there is nothing that can cut him down.

These are wonderful lyrics that really can build someone up, if there are some difficulties in life that you have to cope with.
