Wake Me Up Lyrics
I think this song is about going through life as a young inexperienced individual.
"Feeling my way through the darkness Guided by a beating heart I can't tell where the journey will end But I know where to start" -- The inexperienced person is going though life and knows that what is ahead is unknown. He is guided by his spirit. He doesn't know where he will end up, but he knows where he can start now.
They tell me I'm too young to understand They say I'm caught up in a dream Well life will pass me by if I don't open up my eyes Well that's fine by me -- I think by "they" he means the older generation, those who have been through some of life's experiences and are well into their journey. They see the care free nature of someone so young and naive about life and basically are telling him that he is living life like it's a dream (he has yet to really experience or understand it). They warn that if he does not open his eyes and take it all seriously and stop living guided by his spirit, it is all just going to pass him by, and he will look back and wonder where the time went. However, he is loving the way he is living and if that is what happens, he is fine with it.
"So wake me up when it's all over When I'm wiser and I'm older All this time I was finding myself, and I Didn't know I was lost" -- He is living life and enjoying it. "They" are telling him he is living in a dream. It is a dream/life he loves, therefore he is asking to be woken up from it when everything is over, when he is older, or when he is now the "they" generation he is referring to. He knows that "they" probably associate his life style with a person that is just finding themselves, but according to him, he never even knew he was lost.
"I tried carrying the weight of the world But I only have two hands." -- I love this line. He tried worrying about all of life's troubles just like everyone else does. However, he stopped b/c there was no point in it, so he stopped worrying.
"Hope I get the chance to travel the world But I don't have any plans" -- He does have wishes to do some things, but at the moment he is care free and has no plans to do so.
"Wish that I could stay forever this young Not afraid to close my eyes Life's a game made for everyone And love is a prize" -- He is wishing to live young and free forever. He enjoys how he lives his life. He is not afraid to close his eyes and as mentioned above get "caught up in a dream". He sees life as a game, something fun and something that can be played, enjoyed and won. Love, be it love for someone else, love for one self, love of life, etc is one of the prizes.
i think this song is about finding where you belong in society
I just to my wife about this being a perfect funeral song. In Christianity we speak about life beginning when we die. That the life of this world is not the most important. That when we die, that is when life begins. Eternal life. This song speaks to me in the sense. That while I was in this world I was young, innocent, naive, and made a lot of mistakes. I suffered and hurt. It is ironic when it says " wake me up when it's all over" because when we die we close our eyes, but if you believe in eternal life then when you die is when you finally are able to open your eyes and enjoy true happiness. This upbeat melody of this song also plays into the idea that when someone dies we should celebrate and not be sad. It's an act that is out of the norm, but when my uncle died, we celebrate and danced and celebrated his life in this world and his new life in heaven. This is what this song means to be

Feeling my way through the darkness >> we can't predict the future. Guided by a beating heart >> you exist and are alive. I can't tell where the journey will end, but I know where to start >> I don't know when I will die but I know I am alive right now, and can really just start living right now. They tell me I'm too young to understand >> Established teachings/beliefs shake their heads at you They say I'm caught up in a dream >> this one is too deep for one sentence.. well life will pass me by before i open up my eyes >> you will keep living your life by the identity you have created for yourself, your mind's opinions of itself, do you really know who you are? well thats fine by me >> it's not really a bad thing, it's just one way of living. So wake me up when it's all over >> I don't want to know who I am just yet because i like life just the way it is and the way i am living it, chasing ambitions, acquiring things, striving for all my goals. "I will be happy when i get all that" when i'm wiser and i'm older >> it will all make sense oneday all this time i was finding myself and i didn't know i was lost >> (need an essay on this one) for my life up until now i have been busy looking for happiness, i kept thinking i found happiness, but kept losing it again. Try looking for acceptance, which may lead you in the right direction. I tried carrying the weight of the world >> I set myself goals which i thought would make me happy. but i only have two hands >> reality check some of those things i can't do and lets face i dont really want to do. hope i get the chance to travel the world >> literally means that. but i dont have any plans >> dont try to plan your future too steadfast, you have less control than you think. wish that i could stay forever this young>> i wish that my life could last forever. not afraid to close my eyes >> to die life's a game meant for everyone >> we are all equal beings dancing the rhythm of life, born into a family of ethnicity, circumstances, race, geology, mentality. but each and everyone consists of a lifeform behind a set of senses of which to perceive the world, and change in at every given moment by just going about doing things. and love is the prize >> this is the benefit you will reap when you see/treat everyone as equal, including yourself. chorus repeat with emphasis on "didn't know i was lost" >> this is your life up until you have awakened, this 'term' you either know what i am talking about already, or you are just living your beautiful life unencumbered by questions of your own existence. :) Have a great day,
I think it's kind of a sarcastic song. The older generation says he is "living in a dream" as in he doesn't know what he's doing. His response is "wake me up when I'm older", as if he is supposed to just be older and more experienced and not even bother with being young.
So basically I think he's saying that he's young and inexperienced but that's just part of life and it's part of maturing.
Ignorance is bliss...
to it feels like it is pretty clear that this is about some persons life (his life) //life will pass me by... & life's a game made for everyone// , it is a young life, which also is noticeable by two lines //too young to understand & ... wish i could stay forever this young// He is looking for himself according to the chorus and the first verse (feeling through the dark for the journey that is his life). He is doing or thinking some weird things too according to the second verse: so maybe he is a bit lost or maybe he is just a wild, young dreamer. And people tell him that too: that he is not realistic and dreaming and maybe missing out on life if he doesn't start top open his eyes. But he doesn't care about missing out obviously //well that's fine by me & wake me up when it's all over//. In the mean time he is wrestling with himself and finding himself. and he is doing that and doing that.. but what he didn't know: he was lost, just lost
It's about a guy in a coma.
LOL, what???
LOL, what???
The key lyric is "Life will pass me by if I don't open up my eyes/Well that's fine by me".
This song is a song of surrender. The singer has been beaten down by life ("I tried carrying the weight of the world/But I only have two hands") and is afraid of growing old and senile, but not old and wise ("I wish that I could stay forever this young").
The whole thing is a desire to go to sleep and never wake up again. To let the sorrows of life pass by during sleep and let morning rush in.
I think it's about someone dying js
