Recently I've gone through a breakup, Through nearly 5 years I've been with this woman, Whom i truly still love. She has decided to leave me because i have been taking her for granted. This song means a lot to me because I feel like it represents Her feelings towards me, She loves me so much and all I've done is made her "bleed out" I've taken her heart and cut it out. I haven't been the man she deserves. That is why she has decided to leave me. It hurts me so much every time i hear this song because that's all I can think about. Maybe one day I can get my screwed up life together and work things with her, I pray that will happen because she is the woman I've wanted, and the only one I want. She is my everything, I just hope I can get my act together and treat her how she deserves, I never want her to "bleed out"... I love you Cristina
This is one giant metaphor for being in a relationship where the singer is in love with a woman that's all about using him and then leaving him to "bleed out" by himself... or willing to stick the knife in him by stepping out (or at least verbally abusing him).
THis is about a man and a woman in a dysfunctional relationship, where the woman asks for more than the man can give. the man gives everything he has to the girl and she takes everything and leaves. This happened to me very recently.

This is his wife song, and is sang from her perspective to him, this taking into the account the hurt he brought about to her in the two year he has shared with her, and that he took how she feel into account, and changed
I think it's about his ugly custody battle over his daughter with his ex wife. Gaining sobriety and still fighting to gain more visitation with his daughter. An article in February stated he just barely got it to where they can coparent well and see his daughter when ever he makes time. Before that it was a long drawn out never ending battle.
Ok..first off..u all have a great attachment and personal connection to the song...as do I..but as an acoustic guitar player I research alot of shit..the song is from the point of view of his wife..to bleed out we all know is to die..look up acoustic version of song..he explains in Austin..then look up hate me...the guy is a lyrical genius..we all feel his pain
