Zeitgeist Lyrics
Astral engines in reverse.
I'm falling through the universe again.
Down among a dead mans vision
faded dreams and nuclear fissions span.
The strings of theory, they are holding up the race.
The puppets falling to the ground.
The love I feel as I fly endlessly through space,
lost in time. I wonder will my ship be found?
On this sinking ship I travel
faster than the speed of life.
Not so super nova burns.
The black holes turn and fade from sight.
The strings of theory, they hide within the human race.
The answers buried underground.
The love I feel as I fly endlessly through space,
lost in time. I wonder will my ship be found?
And very soon
the boundless moon
will show us light
and as we crash
we'll pray and kiss
and say goodnight.
Goodnight.

Such a diverse and amazing song... One of my favorites off the new album.
Zeitgeist, by definition, is the primary thought or idea during a certain time period.
I believe the message shows an awful zeitgeist (thought) carried through troubling times- "On this sinking ship I travel, Faster than the speed of life, Not so super nova burns, The black holes turn and fade from sight." But the person carries through it. I also think that maybe a greedy group of people that want to continue the zeitgeist for personal gain- "The strings of fear they are holding up the race, The puppets falling to the ground, The love I feel as I fly endlessly through space, Lost in time I wonder will my ship be found?"
@CaptainCox I like your take on it, agree for the most part, but i think there's one error in the lyrics. I think it's 'the strings of theory' not 'the strings of fear', note all the other astroscientific references throughout the song.

I personally love the history of science and scientific progression. I think it's also about feeling alienated from the current zeitgeist, the current zeitgeist being more about personal gain and to outsiders seemingly puny political and money problems. This ofcourse represses scientific advancement and a unified human race.

'The strings of theory hide in the human race.' We have the capacity to find answers and explore our knowledge and capabilities, we can be better. 'The answers buried underground' The current zeitgeist has buried the answers, making them inaccessible for us because the global priority isn't focussed on the real advancement of the human race.
'The love i feel as I fly endlessly through space.' being the love for your own philosophy. 'Lost in time' Not fitting in the current zeitgeist. 'I wonder will my ship be found?' Will someone understand me? will the zeitgeist change or will there be a paradigm shift?
I love this song alot since it has three things in it that make my life worthwhile. Astroscientific references: I share a great love for the subject. Philosophy: What is the course we ought to be going? where are we? and ofcourse music, well done Black Sabbath for combining these 3.
