The Lonely Life Lyrics
What if I did not love you?
Where would that leave me
Would I wander through the avenues?
Under a pall of misery?
Would I be face down in a gutter?
With cheap whiskey on my breath?
The lonely life of a writer
Whose words could not pay his debts
(Chorus)
Singing please don’t, please don’t pass me by
I am alive, oh can’t you see?
That I’ve been blinded completely
Please don’t, please don’t pass me by
I am alive, oh can’t you see?
That I am pleading for your mercy
What if we became strangers?
Would you notice my face in a crowd?
And you could you hear the sorrow in my voice?
Helplessly crying your name out loud
Would I be searching for a savior?
Burned, and burning with regret
The lonely life of a writer
With one last desperate request
[Chorus]
I’ve been on the lam
Being hunted, so confused
They say time and tide it waits for no man
But I was just hoping
These storm filled skies would clear
[Chorus]
Please don’t, please don’t pass me by
Please don’t, please don’t pass me by
Please don’t, please don’t pass me by
I am alive, oh can’t you see?
That I am pleading for your mercy
Where would that leave me
Would I wander through the avenues?
Under a pall of misery?
With cheap whiskey on my breath?
The lonely life of a writer
Whose words could not pay his debts
Singing please don’t, please don’t pass me by
I am alive, oh can’t you see?
That I’ve been blinded completely
Please don’t, please don’t pass me by
I am alive, oh can’t you see?
That I am pleading for your mercy
Would you notice my face in a crowd?
And you could you hear the sorrow in my voice?
Helplessly crying your name out loud
Burned, and burning with regret
The lonely life of a writer
With one last desperate request
Being hunted, so confused
They say time and tide it waits for no man
But I was just hoping
These storm filled skies would clear
Please don’t, please don’t pass me by
Please don’t, please don’t pass me by
Please don’t, please don’t pass me by
I am alive, oh can’t you see?
That I am pleading for your mercy

This song is talking about how hard his life had been when he loved "her".
"What if I did not love you?" - wondering what his life would be like if ha never lover her.
"The lonely life of a writer Who’s words could not pay his debts" - He is saying that it is very difficult to pay bills even if you put your heart and soul into your songs.
Being a strong believer in God, I believe that this song is about being so blind about God and his wonders, and finally coming to a realization of who God is. "What if I did not love you? Where would that leave me Would I wander through the avenues? Under a pall of misery?" - this particular verse is indicating that Dallas green ( singer ) probably had past issues in his life. He most likely made a connection with the Lord, but is suffering with his faith and wondering where he would be without God.
(Chorus) "Singing please don’t, please don’t pass me by I am alive, oh can’t you see? That I’ve been blinded completely Please don’t, please don’t pass me by I am alive, oh can’t you see? That I am pleading for your mercy" - I believe that the chorus is about the singer being so blind at what God does for us, he was blinded from God, and did not recognize his miracles, and finally, he takes the time to beg for forgiveness, and for Gods mercy,
"please don’t pass me by I am alive, oh can’t you see? That I’ve been blinded completely" - This is supporting my idea above, when he says " please don't pass me by" , he is really trying to ask for God's forgiveness, he may feel that many others have been forgiven, but not himself, OR , he feels the constant need to be repenting his sins and begging for forgiveness, and feels that God has turned his back on him, as he may have done to God.
