Year Zero Lyrics

Belial, Behemoth, Beelzebub
Asmodeus, Satanas, Lucifer

Belial, Behemoth, Beelzebub
Asmodeus, Satanas, Lucifer

Since dawn of time the fate of man is that of lice
Equal as parasites and moving without eyes
A day of reckoning when penance is to burn
Count down together now and say the words that you will learn

Hell Satan, Archangelo
Hell Satan, Welcome year zero
Hell Satan, Archangelo
Hell Satan, Welcome year zero

Belial, Behemoth, Beelzebub
Asmodeus, Satanas, Lucifer

Crestfallen kings and queens comforting in their faith
Unbeknownst to them is the presence of the wraith
Since fate of man is equal to the fate of lice
As new dawn rises you shalt recognize now behold the Lord of Flies

Archangelo
Hell Satan, welcome year zero
Hell Satan

He will tremble the nations
Kingdoms to fall one by one
A victim to fall for temptations
A daughter to fall for a son
The ancient serpent deceiver
To masses standing in awe
He will ascend to the heavens
Above the stars of God

Hell Satan, Archangelo
Hell Satan, welcome year zero
Hell Satan, Archangelo
Hell Satan, welcome year zero

So there is this Satan fellow and he is like here to mess things up. Oh yeah hail Satan.

My Interpretation

@tony009 hahahahahahaha
I think this band is heavy on the show aspect in their music, but really there music is kind of pop-stoner-metal with some goth and lots of SATAN.

but seriously this whole idea of "hail Satan" should start to resonate and make people question the whole outdated christian notion of satan, which in Judaism (where MOST of the name comes from) the idea of "THE satan" (in the hebrew there is always the article "the" attached to the name "satan" ) is different.

In general I think we should question what...

Well once again people need to except this song as entertainment. The beauty of living in the U.S.A. You have a choice listen or don't listen. This song is as sac religious as they come but nothing subliminal here. It is just entertainment people. Ghosts unique showmanship and vocal are music to my ears. Can think of many other artist who where labeled as sac religious. Kiss, Dio, Gwar, Ozzy just to name a few. Love this band and there great sound keep rolling the hits out. Papa Emeritus III Still waiting for round trip airfare from Texas to Amsterdam and ticket to the the concert for your 2017 show. Signed David Big Texas

Tobias Forge, aka Papa Emeritus, is a total genius. This is a very catchy song and a very awesome tune. \m/

“Year Zero” is basically Ghost at their most grand and decadent, and the lyrics hit that sweet spot where theatrics, blasphemy, and dark humour all fuse into something strangely uplifting. The incantation-style name-chanting shouldn’t work on paper, but in context it feels bold and operatic, like you’re being invited into a forbidden ritual with full stadium swagger. It’s clever, it’s tongue-in-cheek, and it commits so hard to its own aesthetic that you can’t help but grin and go along for the ride.

The lyrics in the booklet say "Hell Satan", not "Hail Satan"

@bruno64253 but how would that make sense and the booklet has a fancy font of words that make it hard to read.

@bruno64253 Could also be Papa Emeritus' heavy Swedish accent.

I came here 'cause I couldn't make out a couple of the names in the beginning, but I have to say... there is no way the fate of man is "lice" LOL lies, people, lies!

@HartRock90s Disagree...see the next line about 'parasites' - he's basically saying the same thing as Slipknot - 'People = Shit' by comparing man to lice.

@2sylbl okay you’re right there seems to be a consensus among other sources. Lies just makes more sense to me.

@HartRock90s how does that make more sense? "Lice" makes just as much sense, and is far more degrading, comparing mankind to tiny, weak insects.

My takeaway is that when we choose to blindly trudge through life we are easily misled by lies and deceit. And we deserve it. These lyrics are actually very similar in flavor to some of those found more recently on Ghost's 2022 release, "Impera".

The actual name set at the beginning are actually other demons besides Satan they're called crown princes of hell and by saying the names out like that how they are and in that style now they're pronouncing it it's actually for ritual invoking the powers of those demons those devil gods there are many many devils but one true dark Prince who is Satan the archangel and they're explaining that they're either saying you're zero like the beginning of the world or either zero meeting the end of the world and a new start and this is how it's going to be and he will be ascended so high he will be beyond the stars of God he's God will be the one below he will be above like any other good old first few go CDs singing the praise to Satan love it
