when she sings " i dont need the promise of heaven, just the faith i'll pass twenty seven" i cant help but think of the 27 Club, all the artist that have died at the age of 27 (Kurt Cobain, Amy Whinehouse, Jimi Hendrix, etc.). She is saying that she does want to be great, but she doesnt want to rely on the fact that this will happen, so that way she wont die at the infamous age of 27. She doesnt want to make promises she know she might not be able to fulfill if the fame gets to her and she, well, dies. I think she just wants to live and become famous, but after she turns 27 so she can bypass the myth and you know.. ....i hope i made some sense...
