Friend, Please

I think the speaker is talking to a friend who is hiding his/her suicidal thoughts and depression from the world, and they are trying to tell the friend that they will listen to anything the friend has to say. "remove your hands from over your eyes" could mean that the friend is trying to hide their eyes, which can be referred to as a window into the soul, so nobody knows what they are going through. It could also mean that speaker has always been there and 'removing' his/her 'hands' would help them see that they are not alone.

In my opinion the song is describing a friend who is begging for forgiveness from someone who doesn't seem to understand how sorry this person feels for his mistake "...friend please remove your hands from over your eyes"; As for the part where he begs for his friend not to take his life away from him I think he's not referring to actually taking his life but to not wanting his friend to completely end their friendship and forbidding him from their friendship "...I know you want to leave but friend please don't take your life away from me"

It's about a friend of the singer who thinks about suicide. He asks him not to. Because he would miss him if he would.

I read it as though he is struggling being there for his friend(possibly loved one) because of his tendency to isolate and withhold himself...as though in the first part of the song he is discussing himself. His friend loves him, but covers their eyes to leave because they are hurt. He wants his friend to stay and promises that they will both find the light...From what I know about Tyler Joseph, that just feels right to me.

The singer responds to his friend's confession to being depressed with friendly support. The friend's failures have made him ashamed of himself, resulting in him hiding and denying support while being hopeless. He encourages his friend to see the goods in life and accept his support. He reminds him that there are people who care about him and they would be devastated if he took his own life. The singer tries to make his friend realise that his depression has sucked up his life and excitement. He tries to restore their relationship to stop his friend's suicidal thoughts while assuring him that he will actively discuss anything to make him glow again.

It's about a depressed, probably suicidal friend whom he wants to save desperately. The emphasis on "for me" "from me" indicates the love and support. He is telling his friend to not kill him-herself; not just because it is not the right thing to do. Because this friend means so much to him. "Remove yourself from over your eyes" The friend we're talking about is hiding from something. Maybe scared of what she-he's been through and just can't find the courage to live/see again. "Where light once was" and "who you have become" proves my claim. But he could also be talking about depression, plain an simple. (Depression doesn't need a reason :( ) There is also a continuous comparison between now and then. What depression can do to a person is shown clearly. "you have lost your sway and glow" "'Cause I just wont let go 'til we BOTH see the light" Two troubled buds helping each other out. (This is what I call friendship) The only thing I fail to understand in this song is "exterminate your bones" part. So this friend needs someone to kill him? Or maybe only someone to break the mold and make him-her free.

It's from God's perspective, the whole song, look at the lyrics, he's talking from God's perspective "Friend, please remove your hands from over your eyes for me I know you want to leave but friend, please don't take your life away from me" If you read that from a super natural perspective then you will see that God is saying do not turn from the path of righteousness or commit suicide, instead come closer to me and put your life in my hands.

I love this song. It's perfect for a friend trying to convince another friend to not commit suicide. People don't always realize that their will be people who will miss them if they were gone. It's perfect for me personally because I have many depressed friends, and I use this song to help show my feelings.

I think that this song is about, like many people already mentioned, is about a friend of the speaker's who is dealing with depressed or suicidal thoughts (I know you want to leave but friend, please don't take your life away from me). But, the speaker [Tyler] won't leave them alone, or is trying to help them by letting them know they are not alone ('Cause I just wont let go 'til we both see the light). However, by saying 'we both' this could mean both people are struggling and need each other to try and keep going.

This song is obviously about Tyler Joseph trying to help a friends with suicidal thoughts. He says that his friend is rotting away gradually, as if their life means nothing
