Although I love tyler and josh as if they are my own two sons, I think the original was way better. twenty one pilots's cover sounds like the song is coming from an outer space. the repeat on "kiss you" is unnecessary in my opinion. his soft voice only represents the tiredness cancer causes. in the original, gerard managed to make me feel the fear, agony and anger a terminal cancer patient might feel. BUT, both are beautiful. |

| It is plain and beautiful and painful at the same time. The way Gerard sings it gives it even deeper meaning. Fear of death, sorrow of leaving everyone he loves behind, anger at being weak and hopeless... It is a very touching piece. | |

I love how desperately he's trying to keep everyone alive. "Stay alive for me" in this and "friend please don't take your life away from me" in friend please. I'd like to think he wrote it to anyone who ever had suicidal thoughts. Not a particular person. Sang it so softly too, I want to cry. "sun will rise and we will try again." what a beautiful thing to say! No matter what happened today, there is always a brighter tomorrow. And WE. OMG. You are not alone. So soothing. The night is used as a symbol for depression or simply bad thoughts. "I will fear the night again." It's not clear whether if he fears because he worries about the depressed people or he is depressed himself too. I think the latter. In friend please he says "till we both see the light". There is an understanding, his familiarity with this concept takes the song to another level. |

"friend, please don't take your life away from me" Only this sentence is enough to bring tears to my eyes. It's about a depressed, probably suicidal friend whom he wants to save desperately. The emphasis on "for me" "from me" indicates the love and support. He is telling his friend to not kill him-herself; not just because it is not the right thing to do. Because this friend means so much to him. "Remove yourself from over your eyes" The friend we're talking about is hiding from something. Maybe scared of what she-he's been through and just can't find the courage to live/see again. "Where light once was" and "who you have become" proves my claim. But he could also be talking about depression, plain an simple. (Depression doesn't need a reason :( ) There is also a continuous comparison between now and then. What depression can do to a person is shown clearly. "you have lost your sway and glow" "'Cause I just wont let go 'til we BOTH see the light" Two troubled buds helping each other out. (This is what I call friendship) The only thing I fail to understand in this song is "exterminate your bones" part. So this friend needs someone to kill him? Or maybe only someone to break the mold and make him-her free. |

This is one of the most touching songs in the album but the meaning is pretty much clear. It is about a depressed man. The depression is described so deeply that I can't help but wonder if Tyler is just talking about himself in 3rd person. The nameless masked man could even be the depression itself. (It makes the meaning a lot optimistic though, because we are basically watching this man die) Emphasis on death and maybe suicidal thoughts are also striking. "Take me out, and finish this waste of a life." He and this masked man (IT'S BLURRY FACE GUYS) are two separate people. But they are still together. He wants to be saved. He want's us to destroy the other masked one. (it's a call for help, i'm gonna cry) "Cause no body knows he's alive" Ok, he wants to get rid of the other part of him. He wants help too. But no one's even aware. It's like a secret. One more thing, "everyone gather around for a show" and "Do me a favor and try to ignore, when you watch him fall through a blatant trapdoor" implies how no one really cares what's happening to him. The darkness is consuming and whether he hides it or he's blatantly falling - no one's seeing. |

It always reminds me of a girl, who is very and incurably sick and "mostly gone" (maybe cancer?). And the boy, who is trying to cope with the fact that she'll die. "In other ways"... well, I think he's using drugs or cutting himself. He desperately tries to hold on to the past by avoiding others. He hears what they say "everything they whispered in our ear", and he knows that they are true. They're coming true indeed. But he still believes the girl. (Maybe she said she'll never leave him or something like that.) He's wathing her die. (drown) And it kills him too. No matter what, he will always be here, right beside her. "Lights in the sky, have finally arrived" simply symbolizes hope. (Maybe they found the cure?) And he's still staying beside her. First he tried to stay away because he knew that it would seriously harm him. "just in case" And then he realized everyone has a place and his place is right beside her. As time passes and makes it clear, his hope starts to fade away. He, now, knows that she'll be gone, it's inevitable. But he learned his place, he cannot leave her like that. "Lights in the sky, are waving goodbye" symbolizes the lost hope. Right now, he's sure he'll lose her. There's no cure, no other way, no turning back. But, even after all, he's still staying right beside her. |
