alright I ThINK that this is a song about lovers who are no longer lovers because the girl leaves him for someone else and comes back
and he's like nope no not havin it i already forgot everything you said aka you mean very little to me now so everything you've told me everything you confess it's all going over my head share it with someone else
that's what i get out of this song i'd like to know what others think because this is one of my favorite songs of all time ever

"Well I would take you back but the feeling's dead," this is the line that makes me interpret it as someone who no longer feels the same way as the person who is chasing after them. The person has already moved on.

I think it's about a guy ticked off because his gf left him for another guy. She comes bAck to talk to him like she didn't hurt him. She didn't respect his feelings so he doesn't respect her anymore. He doesn't care about her at all. He has no good thoughts about her.
I think this song is definitely about the singer not being interested in a former lover anymore because of her leaving him for another fella. I also think the song dabbles with the idea of lasting feelings when someone initially tells you something or does something to you, you don’t care about justifications or reasonings, you only have a wave of that feeling entering your body, so you forget most of the details of the convo, but you still remember the over-arching feeling u had, which is what matters most. “I would take you back but the feelings dead, and i already forgot everything you said”
Beautiful song- from a more concrete perspective it's about a guy who is over his girl -he already forgot everything she said follows every verse- either a hindsight perspective or-maybe he was demonstrates his general acceptance and tolerance of the troubled, angry neurotic girlfriend and all of her negativity. I see my own husband in these lyrics---
