Words Lyrics
Always in a rush
Never stay on the phone
Long enough
Why am I so self-important?
Said I'd see you soon
But that was, oh,
Maybe a year ago
Didn't know time
Was of the essence
So many questions
But I'm talking to myself
I know that you can't hear me
Anymore. Not anymore
So much to tell you
And most of all goodbye
But I know that you can't hear me
Anymore
[Chorus]
It's so loud inside my head
With words that I
Should have said
And as I drown in my regrets
I can't take back
The words I never said
Always talking shit
Took your advice
And did the opposite
Just being young and stupid
Oh
I haven't been all that you
Could have hoped for
But if you'd held on
A little longer
You'd have had more reasons
To be proud
Oh
So many questions
But I'm talking to myself
I know that you can't hear me Anymore. Not anymore.
So much to tell you
And most of all goodbye
But I know that you can't hear me
Anymore
[Chorus]
The longer I stand here
The louder the silence
I know that you're gone
But sometimes I swear
That I hear
Your voice when the wind blows
So I talk to the shadows
Hoping you might be listening
'Cause I want you to know
[Chorus]
Never stay on the phone
Long enough
Why am I so self-important?
But that was, oh,
Maybe a year ago
Didn't know time
Was of the essence
But I'm talking to myself
I know that you can't hear me
Anymore. Not anymore
And most of all goodbye
But I know that you can't hear me
Anymore
It's so loud inside my head
With words that I
Should have said
And as I drown in my regrets
I can't take back
The words I never said
Took your advice
And did the opposite
Just being young and stupid
I haven't been all that you
Could have hoped for
But if you'd held on
A little longer
You'd have had more reasons
To be proud
So many questions
But I'm talking to myself
I know that you can't hear me Anymore. Not anymore.
So much to tell you
And most of all goodbye
But I know that you can't hear me
Anymore
The louder the silence
I know that you're gone
But sometimes I swear
That I hear
Your voice when the wind blows
So I talk to the shadows
Hoping you might be listening
'Cause I want you to know

I think this song is about a girl who's parents have died or have shut her out. She misses them and wishes she wouldn't have been the way she was and could've been with them more. Read the lyrics and you'll get it:)
no one hears and she says she is talking to herself
no one hears and she says she is talking to herself
IMO this is about losing someone -could be a mentor, a loved one especially your parents, a friend or your significant other- who's been there for you to straighten you out.. but obviously you "did the opposite" so now that you've lost that person you realized their worth and wanna make amends but it's too late now cos they're dead or with someone else or just wouldn't talk to you.. I loved this song when I was a kid (basically 4 years ago, ever since I heard it in the movie called step up revolution) and now.. now that I lost someone special because I was too scared to tell him how I really feel.. well I loved it even more
I think the lyrics "Always in a rush/Never stay on the phone /Long enough/Why am I so self important?" is her way of saying that someone she knew committed suicide and she missed the warning signs or they simply died and she never spent time with them when she really cared for them.
"Said I'd see you soon/But that was, oh, /Maybe a year ago/Didn't know time/Was of the essence" is her feeling guilty that she didn't take the time to see the signs. Or that she wished she'd spent more time with said person.
"So many questions/But I'm talking to myself/I know that you can't hear me/Anymore. Not anymore" is her saying she wish she could ask them why they did or the more she wanted to know about them before they died.
"So much to tell you/And most of all goodbye/But I know that you can't hear me/Anymore" is her wanting to tell the person how she felt and and what she wanted them to know. But obviously they're dead.
"It's so loud inside my head With words that I Should have said And as I drown in my regret I can't take back The words I never said" she's filled with regret but can't take it back. She said things she didn't mean and is afraid they thought she meant them.
"Always talkin shit Took your advice And did the opposite Just being young and stupid" this person was wise, maybe a mentor, and she disrespected them and regrets it.
"Oh I haven't been all that you Could have hoped for But if you'd hung on A little longer You'd have had more reasons To be proud" the mentor maybe tried to help her but she wouldn't take it. So they killed themselves or shut her out, only they died before she could improve.
"Oh So many questions But I'm talking to myself I know that you can't hear me Anymore. Not anymore. So much to tell you And most of all goodbye But I know that you can't hear me Anymore" Same as before.
"The longer I stand here The louder the silence I know that your gone But sometimes I swear That I hear Your voice when the wind blows So I talk to to the shadows Hoping you might be listening 'Cause I want you to know " The more she dwells on it, the more she wants to change it so she imagine they're there and talks to them, telling them what she wants them to know when she's not sure they can hear her.
Overall I think it's about a girl who lost a mentor or close friend to suicide or the same person who shut her out and gave up only they died before she could improve and she wants to know more about them and wants them to know how well she is doing.
I think this song is about somebody she lost a mother or a father or overall and important adult figure in her life. Personally, This song express how i feel about my father's death.
"Always in a rush Never stay on the phone Long enough Why am I so self important?" This part refers to how she was so caught up with her life, her friends etc; she didn't make time to talk to him/her and she regrets that now.
"Said I'd see you soon But that was,Maybe a year ago Didn't know time Was of the essence" Maybe this person died all of the sudden; one day he/she was here, with good health ,etc, and the next moment he/she wasn't
"So many questions But I'm talking to myself I know that you can't hear me Anymore. Not anymore" She has so many questions about this person's life, his/her history or maybe about why he/she had to go; but she knows she will never have the answers.
"So much to tell you And most of all goodbye But I know that you can't hear me Anymore" This part just confirms the idea of the sudden death of the person; she wants a proper goodbye, a last chance to say I love you, a last hugh, last words, but she can't have that.
" It's so loud inside my head With words that I Should have said And as I drown in my regret I can't take back The words I never said" I think she regrets no saying enough I love you (and that kind of stuff) , when that person was alive, because it's better to regret something you said, than to regret something you didn't say.
"Always talkin shit Took your advice And did the opposite Just being young and stupid" That person always adviced her, try to teach her about his/her own mistakes,, because he/she cares about her, but she never listen because she's "young and stupid"
"I haven't been all that you Could have hoped for But I you hung on A little longer You'd have had more reasons To be proud" She thought she had time to make the person proud so she allowed herself to make some stupid mistakes.
"The longer I stand here The louder the silence I know that your gone But sometimes I swear That I hear Your voice when the wind blows So I talk to to the shadows Hoping you might be listening " I think she's in a graveyard , she feels his/her presence (not in a paranormal way) sometimes, and other times she doesn't. She feels the need to talk to this person, to pretend the person is alive, but she knows deep down she only have memories to hold on now.
I just realize that this lyric about missing close friend
Actually this song was dedicated to skyler's grand father who has passed away
