Peach Lyrics
You are my peach, you are my plum
You are my earth, you are my sun
I love your fingers, I love your toes
The back of your head, the tip of your nose
And you are the reason I'm smiling when there is nothing to smile about
Yeah, you are the reason I'm smiling when there is nothing to smile about
One day you will find someone who will love you like you deserve
But tonight I'm the only one left and I'm betting it's a fact that you will never learn
Once I sink my teeth, your skin's not so tough
I'll leave a tiny cut, there'll be a lot of blood
But once you wipe it up you will feel better about our entire situation
You are my light, no need to hide
You are my clock, keep me on time
You are my angel, you are my crime
I'll serve this sentence the rest of my life
And you are the reason I'm smiling when there is nothing to smile about
Yeah, you are the reason I'm smiling when there is nothing to smile about
I do things wrong, you thought I might
You say I'm gonna miss you when you leave and you are probably right
But I'm just as stoned, I don't wanna fight
You say I should think before I talk, you say I shouldn't think about my life
Cause once I finally hit the ground, who's gonna drag me into the light?
It's just so hard to see tomorrow past tonight, woah
It's just so hard to see tomorrow past tonight, woah
You are my earth, you are my sun
I love your fingers, I love your toes
The back of your head, the tip of your nose
Yeah, you are the reason I'm smiling when there is nothing to smile about
But tonight I'm the only one left and I'm betting it's a fact that you will never learn

in general, the song is about a dude and girl. the dude knowingly treats his girl poorly, but the girl never leaves the dude, for whatever reason. she threatens to leave him, though, but never does.
This song is about a guy who really loves a girl but feels that his flaws will gert in the way and get her hurt but is grateful to her for sticking with him
I agree with lactate 100% as a literal interpretation, but I wanted to share my personal interpretation of the song.
It reminds me of myself (a girl) and my little sister.
I know that might seem strange but hear me out...
When I hear this song I imagine us singing the lines back and forth to each other. For the most part, there isn't a line that doesn't remind me of our relationship (she really is the reason I smile when everything else sucks) but I want to clarify a couple of lines:
One day you will find someone who will love you like you deserve But tonight I'm the only one left and I'm betting it's a fact that you will never learn
It's sort of, kind of abusive sounding for a couple, however for sisters I imagine it meaning that one day she'll meet a guy that deserves her, but for now, I feel like I'm the only one who loves her unconstitutionally (same vise versa: one day I'll find someone who will love me even more than my sister). And the "I'm betting it's a fact that you will never learn" is because we are both so involved with our friends that we don't realize the girl standing next to us through every friend that has left."Cause once I finally hit the ground, who's gonna drag me into the light?" (the fact we'll never learn is: "we only have each other")
Once I sink my teeth, your skin's not so tough I'll leave a tiny cut, there'll be a lot of blood But once you wipe it up you will feel better about our entire situation
I think of it as a metaphor for opening up to someone about your problems and feeling better for it after. The tiny cut that cause so much blood suggests that the problem isn't that big a deal and mostly over reaction/underlying problems and once the "blood is wiped away" (the problem has been talked through) you see the actual, small issue and everything is better
There are other small details that this song reminds me of us singing back and forth like my personality being like earth and hers like fire Her:You are my earth Me: you are my sun
She's very organized and by the book like a clock but I'm practical and have to remind her of simple things Me:You are my clock Her: keep me on time
She's social and popular and I keep to the background Me: you are my light Her: no need to hide
Since I'm not very social I say weird or even mean things off hand Me: You say I should think before I talk
I do bad in school, but she does fantastic and wants me to focus more but I think she takes takes things to seriously Her: you say I shouldn't think about my life
Maybe it's just me but i don't get basic standard indie love song vibes from this.
I know the peach/plum/earth/sun part is cute and quotable and catchy but the entire rest of the song kind of hints at statutory rape or maybe just someone taking advantage sexually in general.
Definitely creeps me out.
@CORPSErawr They've talked about what it means. Brian wrote it about his girlfriend, there's nothing related to rape. I think you thought about it because of the second stanza, I see it more like a metaphor and representation of the fights that happen in a relationship and how they can make it up and feel better after it because that's what happens in most of the relationships, right? If it's a tiny cut, you can wipe it up. Fights are normal between any couple and since it's just a tiny cut (metaphorically, I would never stand for literally hurting someone)....

And the end seems just like a normal couple thing, the thing about missing you and caring about you etc.
I'm not saying you're wrong, you did your own reading of the song based on your life and that's great! I just wanted to show you what I think. Have a wonderful day!
