Maybe it's just me but i don't get basic standard indie love song vibes from this.
I know the peach/plum/earth/sun part is cute and quotable and catchy but the entire rest of the song kind of hints at statutory rape or maybe just someone taking advantage sexually in general.

The part of this song that goes (get out the way) sounds EXACTLY like "Stay Away" by Nirvana. It's the same tune and set-up... Sounds like a rip off but I could understand it being coincidence. I can sing the words to the nirvana song with this one and it's perfect.

This is why I love this website. I learn so much from it.
I can see DAISYENTENDU being right, since the lyrics are always pretty vague. I do the same thing when i write poetry. It's too personal to say so i say it in a kind of poetic code.
I can see hollowedout being right too, cuz I've gotten sick of myself and what I write before, and if I was tired of being in a band, I'd let someone take over the writing. Maybe that's what Jesse is doing.
There's definitely something up with this band and that's why this website is one of my favorites; I can't get the whole experience on my own. |

Don't get all righteous. No one would be offended by someone else's interpretation, and sure, maybe this song would make someone want to try heroin, but hey, it's all fuckin true. Even if it wasn't the most addictive shit I can think of, once you've tried it you realize nothing will ever make you glow like that again. And then once you come down, you really just want to die because not only does everything physically hurt, you get so depressed that you mentally hurt.
Your generalizing is so wrong. Not all users are trying to "fill a hole". Also, the Elliot Smith song is Needle In The HAY, and the lyrics are honest and good but they don't outshine this song. I just found it today, no idea it was about heroin, but now that I've read the lyrics, I can relate to it on an eerie level.

Alright, I agree with everything except the blue brown theories and the parts about the frat boys. I think the blues being brown means that feeling blue doesn't feel pretty like blue, it feels ugly like brown, so she thinks it shouldn't be called blue at all.
I don't understand what she's talking about with the horse.
And in my mind elaborating to the frat boys is like, being at a party when you're sad and no one else is, you kind of freak them out with your heavy grief and sadness so she's like, no no no, use your baby talk. They like that.

Brand New is reverse tolerance. Any band I can think of (Excluding Bright Eyes), the more I get of them, the less they appeal to me. It's a sign of something special when it doesn't work like that, and Brand New is pretty fucking special if you ask me.
