Slow Animals Lyrics

You don't have to be so loud
Everyone can hear you in this whole damn crowd
You don't have to try so hard
I think they got the message, you were out of your mind
It's not so good to see you this upset
But the next generation will forget
They're always scared of where their daughter's been
'Cause who knows, she could be alone with men
They never wanna see or hear or think about again

Is it gone?
I hope that nothin's wrong
Is it gone?
I hope that nothin's wrong

Oh, please don't try to lick my face
Everyone can see that you're a psycho in this place
The next generation will forget
Where their daughter's been
Or who knows, you could be alone with men
They're never gonna let you understand
Or show you what is to be a man
You don't wanna sit down and think or hear
You don't think anyone is in your ear
I never wanna see your face
Accuse -- it's no ones fault

Is it gone?
I hope that nothin's wrong
Is it gone?
I hope that nothin's wrong

Is it gone?
I hope that nothin's wrong
Is it gone?
I hope that nothin's wrong

They're always scared of where their daughter's been
'Cause who knows, she could be alone with men
They never wanna see or hear or think about again

Is it gone?
I hope that nothin's wrong
Is it gone?
I hope that nothin's wrong

It's about loss of innocence. There's a father who doesn't want to think about what his baby girl might be off doing. There's a girl whose loosing it and screaming at her boyfriend. There's another girl whose acting like a psycho slut. There's a boy who doesn't know yet what it is to be a man.

Slow Animals, it takes us all so long to finally grow up. Some of us never do.

LIFE IS SIMPLE IN THE MOONLIGHT!
This definitely had something to do with it, the little melody thing, the animals, the creepy old men talk...

Jules must have been at a zoo when writing a few of these songs or something.

It could be the thoughts of the father, wondering about the virginity of the daughter. The denial.

The song is indeed about loosing virginity or being afraid of seeing their daughter with other men, i suppose the strokes wrote to song to show that they are being afraid of their own daughters, before they was the guys who was alone with other peoples daughters and now they are scared of where their daughters been, cause who knows she could be alone with men and they are tired of thinking about it just like the former generation did, even though they thought their (the former next generation) generation will forget about being afraid of their daughters being.

For me, this song is about being in a relationship where you love each other deeply, but you just aren’t getting a long. It’s very hot and cold, back and forth. Just because you love someone doesn’t mean you should be with them

Actually, I believe it is:

Is it gone? I hope that nothing's wrong Is it gone? I hope that nothing's wrong

I thought he was stuttering at first too, but it's just a clever placement of emphasis.

Sidenote, the verses sound like the Scissor Sisters. Especially the second line of the song.
