I think its trying to convince yourself that you are ok with a lost lover, with the bridge of the song as the inner monologue. Both the outer face and the inner monologue ultimately fail, as the outer face ends both parts off focus from the "careless" message and the inner monologue goes from proclaiming "weightless" i.e. freedom from their problems to just stating they are rust (also as the song itself breaks down)
