I think this is about getting used to being in a negative frame of mind, maybe depression and feeling a bit stuck there as you get used to the "dark", anything different e.g. "light" scares you. It could be about about thinking someone else probably a partner, has been in the same position as well, but you're scared to tell them about your experience. I guess then maybe it's about not being ashamed of it and being proud of where you've got to.
I think the song is about having a really bad hangover after having "accidentally" drank too much the night prior and suffering a significant other's wrath as a result.
