A Girl and His Cat Lyrics
I never have fun but i wouldn't say no
I guess that's my prerogative
I'll never give up and I'll never look down
That would be the end of it
Look at me now screaming up and down
With huge degrees of lethargy
Some may say that I'm lying down
That don't mean a fuck to me
I should remove you all, nothing ventured nothing maimed
Hang on your suffering wall to decompose and rearrange
Sit tight with your lonely rose, beauty is the death of pain
Don't see it coming at all, so we control and we contain
This is what you wanted to be
This is what you wanted
This is your house this is not your home
I don't know if we're ever gonna belong
You can build a house but not a home
It will always stand on shaky ground
I want to play dumb but I can't let go of my responsibilities
Why have one? you can take all ten
I guess that's not enough for you
I should remove you all, nothing ventured nothing maimed
Hang on your suffering wall to decompose and rearrange
Sit tight with your lonely rose, beauty is the death of pain
Don't see it coming at all, so we control and we contain
This is what you wanted to be
This is what you wanted
This is your house this is not your home
I don't know if we're ever gonna belong
You can build a house but not a home
It will always stand on shaky ground
We are looking for love
But you're baying for blood
We are looking for love
But you're baying for blood
This is what you wanted to be
This is what you wanted
I guess that's my prerogative
I'll never give up and I'll never look down
That would be the end of it

Im not really sure about this song but I think I understand the title,
The cat is completely oblivious to all information that we know, almost like the fish in the bowl, The cat doesn't know if its owner is a male or female and neither does it care. That's why cats and all animals do not fight wars against each other because they don't know what war is. That is why information and cleverness leaves us in shambles and will probably be the end of us all.
I think people are reading far too much into the title of this stunning song, and ignoring the lyrical content. Simon has explained previously that the song's title and formative stages were inspired by a novel by Mark Z. Danielewski about a 12-year-old girl who finds a kitten. Danielewski is a favorite author of Simon Neil and Biffy Clyro's previous album Only Revolutions was also titled after one of his novels. Simon Neil told NME: "I just thought 'A Girl And His Cat' as a title was HILARIOUS"
I think deep down though the lyrics of the song relate to the feelings of confusion after a break up of relations (not particularly a break up or divorce) or feelings after having invested so much in someone but neglecting them somewhat and maybe having physically moved in with someone and it not been all it was meant to be... It's almost as if the first verse is looking at what someone has said or criticised, maybe "you don't have fun" and it's like yeah well I guess that's my prerogative. Chorus could relate to how people might say "yeah well it's never going to work with you" and the feelings of being well yeah you may say that but nothing ventured etc... especially with adding the violent twist to that...
I can't make heads or tails of this. Each line seems to have been written entirely obliviously of the rest of the song's lyrics. Great song though.
