Ok. Now then, i may be very wrong here as Bernards lyrics occasionally don't make sense and i haven't studied and obsessed over this song, like i have on a number of New Order songs...
But....
I would suggest that it's "....DOGS come howl at your door". Dust doesn't tend to howl.
And...."you were the start and you were the WHOLE" ?
Might be way off there but "whole" makes sense AND rhymes with "soul".
And "....gone is the life, we built in the SAND"
Could be wrong but surely even Bernard wouldn't rhyme "can" with "sec"....would he?
Regardless of anything i have suggested above. I adore this song. It does sound a bit super-market music in parts but that bass pulls it back into the sublime.
