Let It Go Lyrics
I'm from a little city with expensive taste,
Where the cars don't run until the engine breaks.
Wasn't spending pennies on massive things,
But invested in mess with this recipe.
Couldn't quite see what the future held
And as days went by it would tell itself.
Let it struggle just a little bit more,
Let it struggle just a little bit more.
Remember what the people said,
Remember what the people said,
When it's said and done, let it go.
Remember what the people said,
Remember what the people said,
When it's said and done, let it go.
Shouldn't try to fix it if it keeps getting better,
Just let it go, forget it for ever and ever and ever
Don't ever resent a letter inside a single word written,
A little change can pave lanes with the right vision.
Couldn't tell what would happen next
But as weeks went by look what turned to best.
Let it struggle just a little more,
Let it struggle just a little bit more, mm hm.
Remember what the people said,
Remember what the people said,
When it's said and done, let it go.
Remember what the people said,
Remember what the people said,
When it's said and done, let it go.
If what they said was all pretend then it'd be different,
If it depended on if anyone was listening,
And I was listening.
And when they said that what I wanted was a figment,
I had to turn the other cheek but I was listening,
Yeah I was listening, listening to all.
Remember what the people said,
Remember what the people said,
When it's said and done, let it go.
Remember what the people said,
Remember what the people said,
When it's said and done, let it go.
Remember what the people said,
Remember what the people said,
I wasn't listening,
I wasn't listening, listening at all.
Remember what the people said,
Remember what the people said,
Oh I wasn't listening,
I wasn't listening, listening at all (At all at all at all )
At all, at all.

From what I gather of the song its all about an individual who is surrounded by the facade of happiness via materialism, and it is tearing him/her apart. So when that individual attempt to be a genuine person and yearn for something worth having that person is shut down and blown off. Making him/her feel insignificant and everyday that person is attempting to ignore what it is they are telling him/her but can't shake it.
it's "a little change can pave lanes" not play lanes
We'll take it line by line. He's from a small, wealthy city where the cars "don't run" until the engine "breaks" (by this he means until the engine is altered for the better or upgraded like some wealthy people have done to their cars). He didn't spend extravagantly like the rest of his town but he was influenced by them. He noticed the conformity of everyone else and the facade his town put up. Throughout life, he's haunted by the words of everyone who everyone who tried to influence him, begging him to "remember" what they said. He might have been told that his dreams of becoming a musician in such a prestige-obsessed town were ridiculous, and a "figment." At the end, however, he raises himself from everything that has haunted him and reveals that he was never listening. The song itself is ironic because its popularity proves the writer WAS successful, contrary to what all of those people were telling him.
