The Hard Sell Lyrics
I'm paranoid and sick of this
World's misconception of things I've did
My language poured across this wrist
In a metaphoric disaster
My guess, I'm missing out the punch line
Unless this hanging noose is fitted to be all mine
I stood by everything I loved
While you never understood me much
Cause' there's only one of me
And too many of you fighting over nothing
Oh, there's never enough cool for everyone
And before you know it
You're selling out to be in
(There's never enough, there's never enough)
Oh, you're selling out to be in
(There's never enough, oh)
These eyes ungoverned
Are tearing us apart
Their ears, forsaken,
Have given up on art
Now, why believe in anything they praise
While one hand holds them the victor
While the other holds the shovel to their grave
I stood by everything I loved
While you never understood me much
Cause' there's only one of me
And too many of you fighting over nothing
Oh, there's never enough cool for everyone
And before you know it
You're selling out to be in
Oh, this ticket window has closed
Save your money baby
The next show's about to start
Where else can you get to watch this talent fall?
One by one they drop
I stood by everything I loved
While you never understood me much
Cause' there's only one of me
And too many of you fighting over nothing
Oh, there's never enough cool for everyone
And before you know it
You're selling out, you're selling
All of me for too many of you fighting over nothing
And before you know it
You're selling out to be in
(I stood by everything I loved)
You're selling out to be in
World's misconception of things I've did
My language poured across this wrist

Sirius has finally returned from his time in the Keywork; for him, only about a week has passed, but to the rest of the universe, he has been gone for about a year and a half.
He is conflicted about what he should say to a world that was convinced one of their greatest minds had perished. After consulting with his mentor about the true nature of the Keywork, both men agree that the people at large would be better off not knowing of the bleak afterlife that awaits them all. Instead, Sirius decides to stick solely to a scientific explanation, and fabricates a set of passable, though still extremely exciting, algorithms and explanations about the energy that binds the planets together.
Sirius is lauded as a hero of the scientific community and is given an award at a ceremony in his honor; Meri, also in attendance, simultaneously struggles to find out where she stands now that her husband has returned -- especially since she has been seeing Colten, the police officer who saved her in "Goodnight, Fair Lady"
I'm pretty certain this song is about Sirius Amory, having returned to his planet after approximately 547 days in the Keywork (and believed to have been killed when his ship 'The Meriwell' exploded).
He attains celebrity status, which ends poorly.
Wow, clearly mostly non-fans or noob fans trying to educate the masses. Don't get me wrong, some of you seem like you keep up on Coheed lore, but don't dig too deep for answers. The song is pretty much about what it sounds like. He is talking about the music industry and the people in it. First and foremost, Claudio writes based in events, people, circumstances, feeling, and the like, which pertain to contemporary life, such as it is for him at any particular time.
Claudio has been quoted describing the basis for this song. Google makes it pretty easy to find. Yes, it was molded to fit into the story afterwards, as most songs he writes end up.
I think this song is about someone who has done nothing wrong but people look down upon the person as if it is his fault for everything.
