Pretty Little Girl

Tom really paints a vivid picture with this song, his vocals make the song IMO. Anyway to me it feels like a tale of young love growing in to true love; a young couple discovering each other before they truly know themselves, feeling like it could last forever and realizing it takes hard work and both would need to work to make it last, because together they can make it worth it.

I agree with the previous commenter in most respects, but I think its more personal than that, I think its about the relationship Tom (and maybe Mark + Travis as well) has with his wife. How, through all the tough times they've been through, they're still deeply in love. They look back on everything up to this point and know how hard it can be, but they're still in it together. It follows with Blink 182 as a band too. It follows in the direction the band has taken lyrically, how at the start they were just kids, not understanding girls and being in confusing situations, and how now they're able to look back from their current position and reflect. They're not kid's anymore, and the years have been tougher on them than they ever thought, it caused issues within the band, and even damaged their friendship. But in the end here they are. Together. Growing up.

"Pretty Little Girl" serving as the personification of their band, their kid's are all their fans who are growing up with their genre defining music. It's about sharing the experience with everyone. At least, thats what I hear.

Song about Jen? Even if we miss the mark.. Could be some what cryptic to when blink broke up and Tom missed his best friend?

Okay so heres how i see it: The song is a story of a young girl and a young boy who met when they was young and it was just young love but it grew alot more than that. The song shows events in their lives which made their relationship harder but they overcame it and are old and supportive to their children who seem to be about their age. Here is why:

Nineteen, your eyes are glowing to my beating heart (He fancies her) Oh, it seems like it is fine as my hand is moving up your arm (Here they are newly boyfriend and girlfriend they are uncomfortable to even touch each others arms) And you never really know where it goes up until it start (You don't know when the relationships going to work or not) I got my eye on you, what you're gonna do.

Daydream near a stream where the winter bites (He is on his own) Oh, I listen to the song on repeat from the other night. (Listening to a song that reminds him of her) And I can't picture you but I sure got the feeling right. (He can't picture staying with her for ever but hes got the feeling he wants to) What a crazy world, pretty little girl

And we wake from the night in a bed with a bruise (They are in bed together) And were laughing out loud with the craziest news (They are laughing together and everyone is talking about them) And you reach for my hand I was scared in your room. (She makes a move on him and he doesn't know how to react) We fell on the floor and we started to move (They both started making out/maybe more) And your hands were like birds as they flew from the coop (Her hands where all over him) Up my back they would climb just as I came unglued. (Obvious what happens here...)

You said, if you break my heart, then I will change your mind (If he tries to dump her she won't let him And I will do it again (If he tries again she will stop him) If you play the part then I will play mine (He is tries to make them apart she will bring them back together) And I will do it again If we miss the mark if we hold on tight (If they stay together and be real close) We'll be there to try it again. (He can tell she is thinking of him being with her for ever) And the kids are growing up as you and I, we are growing old (He is also thinking of them being together as he said this verse and it is in first person) What a crazy world, pretty little girl In the rain with a drink from the back of the bar (They go to bars together) I would raise up my voice you would raise it up more (This could be interpreted as having a good time I'll go through each) We'd forget that our lives being apart it is hard (They become apart due to argueing or they go to university or something making them live far apart) We thought we were close but it still feels far (They are close emotionally but not quite or they are close emotionally but live far away so it feels far) And we learn to get by if we learn to have scars (This supports the arguement case They argue but they learn to get over them OR being apart has formed a scar withing their relationship) We learn to forgive and accept who we are (Supports the arguement case = Arguements make them forgive and understand eachother)

Wait a minute hold up a second Don't leave me here with this feeling Like I'm the one full of regret (Don't make out like it's all his fault) And like it never did cope for us both (Like he never cared about their relationship) Like you never did pull out that weapon (also she was the one who started the argument And stick that knife in my back (By breaking his trust) Was I supposed to accept it When your words are like More than just sticks and stones Kinda like a bullet A hollow tip that lodged in my bones (She said some pretty harsh things that are worst than normal) And I can't just swallow it My pride is more than all that I own (As a guy i understand this "A mans pride of being alpha is above all else in an argument) So I gotta give it away (But he has to give it up) And some of the times I'm all the way wrong (When he says sorry) But can't you see past me and see my fucked up home (It's not his fault hes like that he came from a home where obviously his parents argued) That made me the meanest, the devil is just singing along (It made him mean) To the song I write til I'm alone at night (He's alone at night due to the argument) And I hang up the phone and bite my tongue Cause I know that me and you is just only right but one (He really loves her and regretted having an argument with her)

Its a cry from the past we have been through a lot Every year has been great and a few have been tough (They are old now as it is the past and they have had more great times than conflict) And the kids they will reach for the stars up above (They have kids that are on their way to be successful) We'll sit and relax as we're cheering them on (They are watching their kids be successful and cheering them on from the side) All the roads to the life from the crib to the grave (They have lived their life and are old and gray (Ready for the grave, They have lived a happy life together) We started alone in the end we're okay (They started without knowing each other and in the end they stuck together and have made it out alright)

That is how i perceive it. All the happy and sad times couples have to go through in order to come out above because no relationship if all happy and cheery, Once or twice you might puncture your tire which slows you down. But its up to you to have the will to have brought a spare tire and forgive or be forgiven so you can fix it and carry on to your destination.

I wondered if this song was maybe about Tom Delonge himself and his wife's relationship? I think it is definitely about a couple who figured out that they have to work at their relationship. They learn so much through the basic life style that many go through, of course in their own way. Meeting each other, dating, getting married, having kids and through all of this having struggles and getting through it.
