Type Three Lyrics

I have my reasons
For the vices I embrace.
A world of treasons
And I'm there on the escape.

No one else here,
This conversation's been drowned here.
Sixteen is nothing,
And never will be til I'm dead.

Don't bite the hand that feeds you, baby.
(Oh, oh whoa)
Take all the hands that need you lately.
(Oh, oh whoa)
I don't wanna wait, I don't wanna wait
On you, anymore.
Don't bite the hand that feeds you, baby.

Daydream that the world stands still.
Dancing through the fibers of time.
Baby, I just want to hold
Something that was never meant to be mine.

I look to heaven to save me,
And you call me naive.
Gravity a hopeless lover
Cursed with disbelief.

Don't bite the hand that feeds you, baby.
(Oh, oh whoa)
Take all the hands that need you lately.
(Oh, oh whoa)
I don't wanna wait, I don't wanna wait
On you, anymore.
Don't bite the hand that feeds you, baby.

Dance and kill me now
To word's that I've chose
Speak only when you are spoken to.

Don't bite the hand that feeds you, baby.
(Oh, oh whoa)
Take all the hands that need you lately.
(Oh, oh whoa)
I don't wanna wait, I don't wanna wait
On you, anymore.
Don't bite the hand that feeds you, baby.
Don't' bite the hand that feeds you, baby.
(Don't bite, don't bite)
Don't bite the hand that feeds you, baby.
(Don't bite, don't bite, don't bite)
Don't fight the hands that need you, lately.

First off, I believe he is saying: "A world of treasons, and I'm their only escape" and "No one else here has conversations that drown them."

I don't tend to think every song is about relationships, but this one I do believe is about one. It sounds like he is addressing someone already in a relationship that he is tempted to pursue (and she may be willing as well)

16 could be referencing the 16 personality types whereas the title is referencing the type three personality - one who has difficulty with intimacy and constantly needs validation. Whether this is true is one thing, and whether it is a reference to himself or the other person remains unknown - maybe both.

In the end I think it's something of a lament because he is walking away due to his faith and not wanting to be that guy who helps break up a family or a relationship.

It's almost like a second part to "Feel Good Drag" where he's learned his lesson

"This song is autobiographical, each part spelling out a little of my past.

Type Three is my Enneagram number.

I have heard that the average person has 16 conversations with themselves in their head in one minute. I am ADHD, thats how many conversations I have had since I started this sentence.

Dancing through the fibers of time was an inside joke that Jordan Butcher and I made up while on tour in China. We were discussing what super powers we would want to have and I said that I would want the ability to stop time. He asked why, and that the only thing I could really do with that power is to dance through the fibers of time. We couldn’t stop laughing.

After a few theological conversations I arrived at the final line of the second verse, it was never meant to be harsh, it is more along the lines of Pascals Wager.

Speak only when your spoken to was inspired by the song Munich." - Stephen Christian anberlinlyrics.tumblr.com June 2014

I'm really curious about the line "Sixteen is nothing and never will be til I am dead." I'm guessing Stephen means age sixteen?

The title of the song is also curious.
