Play with Fire Lyrics

A house of red light
Burns like your wanting eyes
The way is away
And we say
When we say

We will play with fire
We will play with fire

And every night the Red Light will burn like your eyes
Our time is never, 'cause we'll live forever

We will play with fire
We will play with fire

We will play with fire (Fire x 3)
We will play with fire
We will play with fire (Fire x 3)
We will play with fire (Fire x 3)

My favorite track on the album, despite its simplicity. Firstly, lyrics correction, it's "The way is our way, What we say, when we say," my source being the actual lyrics found inside cd cover of Hide and Seek. Because the lyrics are rather short and vague, there are many interpretations I can gather from them. One was from what I compiled from imagery. The house of red light seems symbolic of a house on fire, leading into a story of a bunch of pyromaniac youths who are rebellious and/or anarchists. My other idea was a more figurative approach. The "red light" in the song makes me think about the Red Light District, and all things associated with it. It fits, as someone who works there or seeks service there does play with fire, rationalizing that because of their youth, nothing can go wrong, they will live forever. That explains the "wanting eyes", and the red light that "burns like your eyes". Basically, indulgence, lust.

When I hear this song it makes me think of humanity and politics nowadays; also how we keep pushing our limits, wanting to know more, create more, and sometimes even go too far. I guess the interpretation's a bit of a long shot - especially when it comes to the verses, but the lines "play with fire" always make me think of the things I mentioned above. People wanting to be God and all that.

My Interpretation

I thinks it about trying to be with someone your not suppose to be with. You sneak out and try to hide your with them. There trouble you know that there dangerous but refuse to stay away. You continue to be with them rather it riskes you or anyone else you've fallen in love.

My opinion. Probably not right. But I tried. That sounds like playing with fire to me.

I think the song is about being in a relationship that two people shouldn't be in. They both love eachother with a passion, so they take a major chance with their relationship that would have dire consequences if it goes wrong. Just as when a somebody plays with fire, they have a chance of burning themselves.

My Opinion

Fire is love. In "Down" fire is used again to reference love. It evokes passion and destruction at the same time.
