Climb (you're dehydrated)
Fly (your wings are jaded)
Cry (you're enervated)
Die (for what you believe in)
Try (you've nearly made it)
Why?

You're the plague within my dreams
Soaring through an atmosphere of an adequate lack of strength
And we're responsible
The truth is that will ends here
Denial's an impairment of your fear
Can we save us from ourselves?
Can we save this from ourselves?

You can break through, wake me up, tell me it's gone.
False hope sells lies, I won't buy we are still one.
Let's attempt escape, melancholia will feed,
We'll admit defeat, the vox popular will cease.
The air is thickening we are drifting.

You're the plague within dreams.
Soaring through an atmosphere of an adequate lack of strength,
And we're responsible (we're responsible).
The truth is that will ends here.
Denial's an impairment of your fear.
Can we save us from ourselves?
Can we save this from ourselves?
This is the savior and its form.

What's done is done.
One more second chance would be enough.
Only on the brink can we see so clearly.
Yeah!

Wake me up!
Wake me up!
Wake me up!
Wake me up!

    My Interpretation

I think this song is talking about how we are killing ourselves and all living beings by destroying the earth. I'll explain the parts that most prove my point.

"Climb (you're dehydrated ). Fly (your wings are jaded)."

This is referring to the animals. They are dehydrated and their wings are jaded because of the negative changes that are occurring to their habitats, which in the long run affects them drastically.

    "Cry (you're enervated)."

Obviously, this is how the affected feel.

"You're the plague within my dreams."

This could refer to what the animals think of us.

"Soaring through an atmosphere of an adequate lack of strength."

Refers to how we are destroying our atmosphere, which is now weaker than it used to be.

"(and we're responsible) the truth is that it will end here."

Directly states the message of the song.

"Denial's an impairment of your fear."

Here it states that we don't want to accept the fate we'll face if this world keeps getting worse.

"Can we save us from ourselves? (can we save us from ourselves?)"

Once again, stating the message of this song.

"This is the saviour and it's form..."

I think this refers to us, humans. We are the saviors (or at least we could choose to be), and our form, which is ironically affecting us negatively.

"You can break through, wake me up, tell me it's gone."

Related to the main message of the song. We can choose to make things better, but at the same time we want this problem to end.

"False hope sells lies. I won't buy."

We wan't to fool ourselves in thinking that things are alright while they aren't.

"We are still one. Let's attempt escape, Melancholia will feed, We'll admit defeat, The box populi will cease. The air is thickening. We are drifting."

Here he wants to make things right; he wants us all to admit that we are messing things up and correct our own errors and eventually fix things.

"What's done is done, One last second chance would be enough. Only on the brink can we see so clearly."

The damage is already done, like it says, and at the last moment, when things are at its worst, we realize our fatal error.

    "Wake me up"

To finalize, this, once more, refers to the main message of this masterpiece of a song!

The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

The Night We Met

This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
