Elephants Lyrics
Painted as monsters, borracho, cansado.
Do you know what the people say?
Plucked from the garden of wretched beliefs.
I offer a rose, and smile with harmless teeth.
Then slick back my hair,
You know the Devil's in there, alone in the garden.
Like lumbering giants in a shameful parade,
We came to ruin all and make a rotten trade.
Make you roll over.
So roll over.
Scattered on the shore, surely washed away.
Feeling somewhat deserving of what will be someday.
No, I can never stay melancholy, I've the memory of your face.
No, I can never stay melancholy for long.
Before I move on.
We're unwanted strangers, exploited and dangerous.
Unable to hide, or even dream of it.
Como estas, parting the seas,
Like lepers who stroll, why you afraid sweetie?
Then slick back my hair,
You know the Devil's in there, so keep one eye open, baby.
We're so easy to spot, lepers riding atop.
Pachyderms of germs, elephants broken and screaming!
Roll over
Are we coming over?
Scattered on the shore, surely washed away.
Scattered on the shore, surely washed away.
Away...
Feeling somewhat deserving of what will be someday.
No, I can never stay melancholy. I've the memory of your face.
All alone in the garden of long lost hopeful plans.
No, I can never stay anything for long.
So, come on.
Move.
Roll over!
Are we coming over?
Here we go...
Do you know what the people say?
Plucked from the garden of wretched beliefs.
I offer a rose, and smile with harmless teeth.
You know the Devil's in there, alone in the garden.
Like lumbering giants in a shameful parade,
We came to ruin all and make a rotten trade.
So roll over.
Feeling somewhat deserving of what will be someday.
No, I can never stay melancholy, I've the memory of your face.

Unable to hide, or even dream of it.
Como estas, parting the seas,
Like lepers who stroll, why you afraid sweetie?

salvador dali - elephants
@MrRobinson All of Dali's elephants pieces. He has a few. And possibly entangled with the meanings of those paintings.

I know Zeppelin liked writing music in reference or within the context of written art (Tolkien). Perhaps John brought that approach to the table, channeled through Josh's affinity with dark characters.

We're unwanted strangers, exploitive & dangerous,
Anyways, i think its about sex. Possibly taking a girl's innocence. "We came to ruin all, and make a rotten trade To make you roll over, so roll over"
@tiptapman
Glad i wasn't the only one that thought this! First thing that popped in my head when this song starts
Just corrected it as I heard it. Correct me!
We're painted as monsters, borracho, cansado. Do you know what the people say? I'm Plucked from the garden of wretched beliefs, I offer a rose & smile with harmless teeth.
Then slick back my hair, YOU KNOW THE DEVIL'S IN THERE? Alone in the garden. Like lumbering giants in a shameful parade, we came to ruin all & make a rotten trade.

Evil seductive guy. Like in "Scumbag Blues" and "Caligulove." Josh Homme likes that sort of character, I guess.
I reckon the song might be about life in a supergroup - they've all been there, Dave Grohl and JPJ saw the worst of what can happen.
"Plucked from the garden of wretched beliefs, I offer a rose
Pretty sure these are the correct lyrics. "Now I can never stay melancholy for the memory of your face" makes the most sense and would fit the pattern (last four lines, third stanza): Now, For, Now, For.
We're painted as monsters, Borracho, cansado Do you know what the people say? I plucked from the garden Of wretched beliefs I offer a rose And smile with harmless teeth Then slick back my hair, You know the devil's in there Alone in the garden Like lumbering giants In a shameful parade We came to ruin all And make a rotten trade
Make you roll over So roll over Get over
Scattered on the shore, Slowly washed away Feeling somewhat deserving Of what will be someday Now I can never stay melancholy For the memory of your face Now I can never stay melancholy For long
Before I move on
We're unwanted strangers, Exploited and dangerous Unable to hide Or even dream of it ¿Como estas? Parting the seas We're lepers who stroll, Why you afraid sweetie? I slick back my hair, You know the devil's in there So keep one eye open baby We're so easy to spot, Lepers riding atop Pachyderms full of germs, Elephants broken and screaming and oh
Roll over Are we coming over?
Scattered on the shore, Slowly washed away Scattered on the shore, Slowly washed away Away, away Feeling somewhat deserving Of what will be someday Now I can never stay melancholy For the memory of your face All alone in the garden Of long lost hopeful plans Now I can never stay anything For long
So come on, Move Roll over Are we coming over?
Get it on
I think it's about the dissident disposal system made up of informant pests, "roll over" as in snitch on someone. Elephants as in elephant in the room. Their song Keep your eyes peeled is also about this also. I might join if it didn't line up so well with the mark and image of the beast and other prophesy of ppl betraying each other and killing others thinking it's a service to God.
