Pretty Girl from Michigan Lyrics
Can you not see what you've done?
You gave your heart away like that.
I didn't want to fall in love
With anyone but you did.
I can still hear the song
The melody behind the kiss
You gave me. You were wrong,
I was right so I walked away
And left you there alone.
I got so tired of talking
On the telephone
How many times would we say the words "Goodbye?"
I've made mistakes and one
was telling you that I'd be there
When tellin'-time had come.
I should have said I didn't care.
Oh the time I would have saved
If I had been less willing
to accommodate,
You'd been a little less likely to cry.
You go back to the high life.
And I'll go back to the low.
I should have known,
But now I know,
They'll be no word from you
Describing how it felt to go through
What I put you through.
It all makes perfect sense,
The way you cut the rope
that kept you dangling
from such pitiful amounts of hope,
I would have cut it too, yeah!
You gave your heart away like that.
I didn't want to fall in love
With anyone but you did.
The melody behind the kiss
You gave me. You were wrong,
I was right so I walked away
And left you there alone.
I got so tired of talking
On the telephone
How many times would we say the words "Goodbye?"
was telling you that I'd be there
When tellin'-time had come.
I should have said I didn't care.
Oh the time I would have saved
If I had been less willing
to accommodate,
You'd been a little less likely to cry.
And I'll go back to the low.
I should have known,
But now I know,
Describing how it felt to go through
What I put you through.
It all makes perfect sense,
The way you cut the rope
that kept you dangling
from such pitiful amounts of hope,
I would have cut it too, yeah!

Can't belive no one has commented this song. It is amazing, the avetts are amazing, North Carolina is amazing.
Rather sad song. Pretty Girl is in love with a person who just doesn't care enough to treat her right, and he knows it...
This song sounds like a message to a specific "pretty girl" that a band member hooked up with after a show, presumably in Michigan, who didn't realize that they were not going to be dating or anything serious afterwards. It made me wonder if all the other Pretty Girl songs were like that, and upon hearing them, I can pretty safely say that if you hook up with one of them after a show and act really clingy, you might just get a song written about you. Don't get me wrong, I like that band, but damn, that's cold blooded to break a girl's heart then write a song about how needy and wrong she was.
