Ten Billion Years Lyrics
I am the alpha
I am the omega
As I will it, so it shall be
Rise to your feet
Stake your claim here and now
A servant to no wraith
To no master
I will serve only my will
And I shall create
Wielding chaos
Harnessing the power to rule my dominion
I commit the obligation unto me
The random chance of consciousness
A path forged in ten billion years
Bestoweth the fruits of triumph unto me
The random chance of consciousness
A path forged in ten billion years
Giving way to acceleration
Sculpt a monument of the now
A servant to no wraith
To no master
I will serve only my will
At my table there's no place for your rituals of grace
I will drink to myself for I know there's nothing else
Words of faith reflect your fear
Thinly veiled but far too clear
And if my truth shatters yours than be baptized in its flame
Sculpt a monument of the now
The random chance of consciousness
A path forged in ten billion years
Giving way to acceleration
And in turn breeds new creation
I am the omega
As I will it, so it shall be
Rise to your feet
Stake your claim here and now
A servant to no wraith
To no master
I will serve only my will
And I shall create
Wielding chaos
Harnessing the power to rule my dominion
I commit the obligation unto me
The random chance of consciousness
A path forged in ten billion years
Bestoweth the fruits of triumph unto me
The random chance of consciousness
A path forged in ten billion years
Giving way to acceleration
Sculpt a monument of the now

This track is from Autotheism by the Faceless, which is an attack on religion. This song perfectly captures the entire nature of the album. "I am the alpha, I am the omega" Alpha and Omega are Greek for beginning and end. This is a play on a biblical passage about God's infinity. He is therefore comparing himself to God. "As I will it, so it shall be." He is the master of his life, and all that is around him. "Stake your claim here and now" Live life in the now, for that is all that exists."A servant to no wraith, I will serve only my will" a wraith is another word for a ghost or spectre. He is implying that deities are no more than ghosts, he will not serve that which he cannot see. This idea continues for the next lines. "The random chance of consciousness, a path forged in ten billion years, bestoweth the fruits of triumph unto me" He was lucky enough to be created in evolution, therefore feels chosen and must enjoy his "fruits of triumph." The next main idea is in Michael Keene's clean vocals. "At my table there is no place for you rituals of grace" he does not want to be anywhere those of religion. "I will drink to myself, for I know there is nothing else." There is no God, or true religion, so I will praise only myself. "Words of faith reflect your fear" If you do believe in religion, you are weak and afraid of what lies after death. "Thinly veiled, but far too clear" (yes the lyrics here say veined, but the actually song says veiled) Your fear is veiled in your actions and beliefs, but its easy to see how you really feel. "And if my truth shatters yours then be baptized in it's flames" If my beliefs of evolution destroys your idea of faith, then you will know that nothing lies ahead. This is most likely a hell-like reference. Making flames and suffering synonyms. "Sculpt a monument to now" worship the now, for it is all we have. Well that is essentially it. Personally one of my favorite songs of all time.
Wow, your explanation couldn't have been any better. I think you did that perfectly. I agree with everything, and yeah, it is a great song. I actually didn't have a clue what the lyrics truly meant so thank you so much.

Perfectly summed up in laments terms nice! This song is the bomb I get into these little debates with my dad over creationism and evolution. I'm an English and science major so when he's proven wrong he just sighs and goes believe what you want. Lmao I was raised Lutheran too so it's kind of funny. One last thing is how freaky it is that people let religion rule their lives and how it's brought into politics which already blows dong!
