Cherokee Lyrics

Never knew love like this
The wind, moon, the earth, the sky
Sky so high
Never knew pain like this
Everything die, then die
Never knew love like this
The sun, the sea and I
Never knew pain, never knew shame
Now I know why

Bury me, marry me to the sky
Marry, marry me to the sky
Feels like time is on my time
Bury me upside down
Cherokee, kissing me
When I’m, I’m going down
Feels like time is on my time
Bury me upside down
Cherokee, kissing me
When I’m, I’m going down

Never knew love like this
The wind, moon, the earth, the sky
Sky so high
Never knew pain like this
Everything die, then die
Never knew love like this
The sun, the sea and I
Never knew pain, never knew shame
Now I know why

Bury me, marry me to the sky
Marry, marry me to the sky
Feels like time is on my time
Bury me upside down
Cherokee, kissing me
When I’m, I’m going down
Feels like time is on my time
Bury me upside down
Cherokee, kissing me
When I’m, I’m going down
Feels like time is on my time
Bury me upside down, down
Cherokee, kissing me
When I’m, I’m going down.

That hawk shriek makes this song. The song is good alone, but it just ups it to the next level.

The lyrics was wrong as far as 'Feels like time is on my time', it is 'If I die before my time' followed by 'Bury me upside down' which the meaning to that is suicide. It's a posthumous punishment to bury someone upside down if they take their own life.

So Kaivan is completely wrong with his assessment on what he thinks the song is about.

Yes, it's about love but it's also about pain. The fact she didn't feel pain or shame was because she was in love, and now she is not. Hence 'Now I know why' afterwards.

This song is about having true love and then loosing it and feeling so crippled by that she is considering taking her own life and being married to the sky.

I think the meaning of this song is beautiful. She probably has not been in a relationship before, and she is experiencing love, or a true love for the first time. She realizes that now that she is in love, as opposed to always hearing about it, everything is beautiful and reminds her of her love, the sky, the earth, the wind, the moon. She also hasn't felt this pain, why is her wanting and thinking everything to die. Throughout the song she contiues to tell of her love, and being in love, if she dies she wants to die in love.
