The Age of Worry Lyrics

Close your eyes and clone yourself
Build your heart and army
To defend your innocence
While you do everything wrong

Don't be scared to walk alone
Don't be scared to like it
There's no time that you must be home
So sleep where your darkness falls

Alive in the age of worry
Smile in the age of worry
Go wild in the age of worry
And sing Worry, why should I care?

No you fight is not within
Yours is with your timing
Dream your dreams but don't pretend
Be friends with what you are
Give your heart then change your mind
You're allowed to do it
'Cause God knows it's been done to you
And somehow you got through it

Alive in the age of worry
Rage in the age of worry
Sing out in the age of worry
And sing Worry, why should I care?

Rage in the age of worry
Act your age in the age of worry
And sing Worry, get out of here!

This song is so hopeful.

Sometimes I wonder if he is trying to give us hope, or trying to give it to himself.

I believe it is both.

Life keeps happening. Problems move along, as do successes. Be true to who you are. Don't pretend to be someone else. Don't worry and just live.

I can see this song as a commencement speech for graduating college students. I have always listened to the song in the context of "know your fight is not within". In these terms it's the understanding of where your problem truly lies. There will be times where you will be in such a despair, you will think you have lost yourself. But as John says, it's not necessarily that you are the problem, but the timing of everything. You will be burned and burn others as life progresses. You can dream, however make sure you live your life too and not have your goals and fantasies just be in your head.

I love the lines "give your heart then change your mind, you're allowed to do it", especially the emphasis in his punching of the words. We shouldn't feel guilty for growing towards different directions from our partners. I think of two things when I hear this line. first, it's his acceptance of his parents divorce. Of course he is devastated that they have split up, but he understands that people change and as they change so do their needs/ values. He is acting very mature. Second, I think of this song as a continuation of the main ideology of "Wheel". Life goes in full circle and this age of worry will pass too. We just keep on moving along in life and this moment of worry is just that; a moment. We will get past this.

actually he sings "Know your time is not with them, yours is with your time here". So it says on the booklet. Nevertheless good interpretation..

My favorite line is "don't be scared to walk alone, don't be scared to like it," because i think it is saying that you should go on your own oath and enjoy it.

Song to reassure one to have no fear.

I think Mayer's parents were academics and wanted him to follow a similar path. But of course he chose to carve out his own path. I think this song celebrates freedom. You gotta love your freedom and cherish your free-will. Well, that's how i see it. Love this song. " RAGE IN THE AGE OF WORRY!!"

I've tried to make changes to the lyrics because some of them are slightly wrong but it doesn't seem to want to accept them

Should be

"Know your fight is not with them Yours is with your time here"

and it's "Sing out in the age of worry and say worry, why should I care?"

I think you're onto something, about his parents here. I think he's saying that while you're young make the most of making mistakes. Be surprised at what you like and enjoy your parents and others being worried about you to the MAX hehe

I love these lyrics: "No you fight is not within Yours is with your timing Dream your dreams but don't pretend Be friends with what you are Give your heart then change your mind You're allowed to do it 'Cause God knows it's been done to you And somehow you got through it"

I think he's saying to just let yourself BE and enjoy whatever life's processes you're experiencing. Perhaps he's giving advice to his own child, in a way that will allow their creativity and self-esttem to flourish and thrive.

"To thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man." - William Shakespeare
