The fact that it's human nature to drink and take pills or drugs to get rid of our problems, even if we lack sleep or constant awareness, just something to numb the pain of everyday life.

Saints and saviors are not going to come for us. It's up to us to save ourselves. Anyone who seems like a savior has skeletons in their closet and there's no way to know their true intentions.

People will take the easy way out of things, 'surrendering' themselves to find 'serenity'. I think the dead is referring to our passed loved ones, meaning that they don't offer us a helping hand so we travel into the realm of the unnatural turning us into the monsters we try to fight.

Essentially... The nice guy finishes last. We sacrifice our youth to wars and media and things of the like to save the corrupt in office.

He's taking a stand and not acknowledging the physical pains of his efforts, and by doing so feels a greater pain in his mind.

We constantly try to save ourselves from the things we call insane but we dig ourselves into a deeper hole, creating that insanity in our own minds.
