A Match Into Water Lyrics
I still think you're beautiful
And I don't ever want to lose my best friend
I screamed out, God you vulture
Bring her back or take me with her
I want to see what sound it makes
I hate this flavor with a passion, and I fucking hate the aftertaste
Well, it feels like I'm on fire
Wake up, I know you can hear me
Dreamless and early graves, I never want it to be this way
The chemicals will bring you home again
This is it, when it's done, we can say that
When it's sudden death we fight back
(Oh, yeah, this was just as I suspected)
I've seen you circling the sky above my head
You traitor
(Keep digging holes in the desert)
Say a prayer for you
But if we die at the same time does it still scare you?
Dreamless and early graves, I never want it to be this way
The chemicals will bring you home again
This is it, when it's done, we can say that
Oh my God, we're not gonna make it
We will bring the tidal wave
We will bring the tidal wave
We will bring the tidal wave
We will bring the tidal wave
And nothing will remain
You stay away from her, it's not her time
'Cause, baby, I'm the one who haunts her dreams at night
Until she's satisfied
Dreamless and early graves, I never want it to be this way
The chemicals will bring you home again
This is it, when it's done, we can say that
When it's sudden death we fight back

the amazing thing about this song is that, even though it was obviously written about vic's friend, it can be interpreted into many other things. you can see it as the way it was supposed to be or by the way i saw it before i knew what it was about: a girl dealing with self harm, depression, etc and vic begging god to bring the "old" girl back, the one before all of the depression.
It was actually written for his ex- girlfriend who was battling breast cancer.

It's about his ex-girlfriend who was battling cancer.

vic said it in an interview, it's his ex-girlfriend who's currently battling cancer.

http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m653onZwjH1qfmlkeo1_500.jpg hint hint. Actually, Vic's best friend was fighting cancer and she died through chemo, scars being the scars from the ivs and what not.
She didn't actually die.
She didn't actually die.
Actually, Vic's ex-girlfriend had breast cancer and he wrote this as sort of a present for her. She never died. (I got this all from an interview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6eXSOdWw8c )

This was a hell of a song though. I love it!!!

Like other songs on this album which hint toward suicide (Tangled In The Great Escape: Well, somebody believed in this suicide, Am I the only one that thinks that you should stay alive). Even the title, match into the water, hints at this, the water extinguishing the flame, death extinguishing life etc.
I kissed the scars on her skin I still think you’re beautiful and I don’t ever want to lose my best friend I screamed out, “God, you vulture” bring her back or take me with her
Unsure if he's kissing her scars here alive or dead, but either way it's obvious that he loves this girl, even though she self harms (/been hurt in other ways) although she does not herself. He's then shouting at god, presumably after her death and either wanting her back or to die himself and join her.
Tear it down, break the barricades I want to see what sound it makes I hate this flavor with a passion and I fucking hate the aftertaste
How does it feel, how does it feel? Well, it feels like I’m on fire Wake up, I know you can hear me
Not entirely sure here, I guess it's just his anger coming out after what happened? The last stanza there seems like he's blaming her (how does it feel?) and feels betrayed perhaps? He's asking her to wake up, from death, or from her depression? Or he's referring back to God.
Make me a promise here tonight, rough like a tidal wave Dreamers in early graves, I never wanted to be this way The chemicals will bring you home again This is it, when it’s done, we can say that when it’s sudden death, we fight back
Dreamers in early graves - his dreams of being with her, or her as herself in her grave? The chemicals could be hinted at that he's committed suicide as well to join her. When it's a sudden death, we fight back - fighting God to get back with her perhaps?
Pretend like I don’t entice you I’ve seen you circling the sky above my head You Traitor
More bitterness at her. Her in heaven, looking over him. She's a traitor for leaving him like she did.
I will never be taken for granted again Say a prayer for you I know that you’re in pain but if we die at the same time does it still scare you?
This stanza confuses me more than the others. The first line might be him blaming her again, and that she left him even though he tried his best and loved her etc. and say a prayer for you seems more bitter than anything. And the last two lines could have a lot of meanings, really!
This is it, when it’s done, we can say that oh my God, we’re not gonna make it
More references to God. Not going to make it into heaven? Not going to stay alive/survive the suicide? etc.
We will bring the tidal wave And nothing will remain
All I can think here is that tidal waves are a symbol of death and destruction? And more of PTV's commonly used imagery, really.
She’s mine you stay away from her, it’s not her time 'CORRECTION > Cause baby, I'm the one. Who'll haunt your dreams at night. 'til she's satisfied
Talking to God? Telling him "it's not her time" Unsure with the last three lines really :)
@mouseluverkerry I know that you're in pain but if we die at the same time does i still scare you?

He's most likely referring to killing himself while she dies to comfort her

THIS SONG MAKES ME CRY!!! i love this song more than myself....

This is honestly the saddest song by them, I think. It's so beautifully said, and it leaves me in tears every time. Especially when he says, 'keep her here to take me with her.' And when he says, Pretend like I don't entice you, I can see you circling above, it sounds like he's challenging God to smite him or something. Beautiful song

"i kissed the scars on her skin. i still think you're beautiful.... and i don't ever wanna lose my best friend" i love that part i love this band it gets me so well... :)

there's a line or two i couldn't figure out and i'm not one hundred percent sure so if someone thinks they have the right lyrics please post!!
I think the screaming part after "i will not be taken for granted again" says something like "keep digging holes in the dance floor"

its not 'rough like a tidal wave' its 'love like a tidal wave'
