Violet Rays Lyrics

Faithless moors
Pulling up your oars
From rivers I have crossed
In magic no heart’s lost

And I’ll leave with anyone this night
And I’ll kiss anyone tonight

Am I the only one you see?
Raised from the path of revelry

Spells fall frail
Webs catching sail
In eternal eternities
Divine purpose catching free

And I’ll leave with anyone this night
And I’ll kiss anyone tonight

Am I the only one you see?
Seized from the wrath of revelry
Am I the only one you see?

Does love matter when loves the actor
For what you are after is me
Babe, don’t leave me, please believe me
‘Cause I’m so easy to know

Am I the only one you see?
Raised from the path of revelry
Am I the only one you see?

I think this is one of the best songs off the album. Apparently his last break up inspired a lot of the lyrics. I think it's about heartbreak and questioning if his girlfriend cheated on him: "Am I the only one you see?" Is she seeing someone else in the literal form or does she see someone else emotionally. So he's vulnerable and will leave with anyone. I think a lot of people can relate to being hurt and making a mistake or two out of vulnerability.

He was on Howard Stern on the day Oceania was released and refused to comment whether this song was about her cheating. Safe to say it most likely is.

ahh, the slow changes made throughout the album, i mean, look at Quasar, then Wildflower. huge difference! less reliance on power chords. the beginning of this song... was.. amazing. the first time i listened to it, Shine on you crazy diamond was the first thing i thought of :) the synth is so beautiful, this should be a hit. the lyrics were definitely inspired by Billy's last relationship, he didn't say so himself, but when he was asked in an interview, he didn't want to say, so chances are, it is XD "Am i the only one you see?" ... "I'll leave with anyone this night" she cheated on him, :( so sad. but he made a ver sweet song with it.

Definitely a song about a faithless lover, or at least questioning if a lover is being faithful or not.

I'd say there's an 80% chance at least that this is about Jessica Origliasso.

The only part of the lyrics that are a little confusing are the first couple lines:

Faithless moors Pulling up your oars From rivers I have crossed In magic no heart’s lost

Moors are generally people from North Africa... and to my knowledge Origliasso is from Australlia?

Billy probably just used the term because it rhymes with oars and fit in with the boating imagry.

I do kind of like the image of a relationship being someone traveling on a rowboat and a breakup/infidelity being the boatman pulling up the oars and not allowing travel anymore.
