Faithless moors
Pulling up your oars
From rivers I have crossed
In magic no heart's lost
And I'll leave with anyone this night
And I'll kiss anyone tonight
Am I the only one you see?
Raised from the path of revelry

Spells fall frail
Webs catching sail
In eternal eternities
Divine purpose catching free
And I'll leave with anyone this night
And I'll kiss anyone tonight
Am I the only one you see?
Seized from the wrath of revelry
Am I the only one you see?

Does love matter when love is the actor
For what you are after is me
Babe, don't leave me, please believe me
'Cause I'm so easy to know
Am I the only one you see?
Raised from the path of revelry
Am I the only one you see?

Definitely a song about a faithless lover, or at least questioning if a lover is being faithful or not.

I'd say there's an 80% chance at least that this is about Jessica Origliasso.

The only part of the lyrics that are a little confusing are the first couple lines:

Faithless moors Pulling up your oars From rivers I have crossed In magic no heart’s lost

Moors are generally people from North Africa... and to my knowledge Origliasso is from Australlia?

Billy probably just used the term because it rhymes with oars and fit in with the boating imagry.

I do kind of like the image of a relationship being someone traveling on a rowboat and a breakup/infidelity being the boatman pulling up the oars and not allowing travel anymore.

Warren wanted a Beach Boys thing for this one, and Carl Wilson and Billy Hinsche came in, with Carl arranging the vocal parts. The other harmony vocalists (credited as the "Gentlemen Boys") were Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Zevon's longtime backers Waddy Wachtel and Jorge Calderon, and Linda Rondstadt/Stone Poneys guitarist Kenny Edwards.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
