I Don't Wanna Pray Lyrics
I love my god, god made love
I love my god, god made love
I love my god, god made hate
I love my god, god made hate
I love my god, god made good
I love my god, god made good
I love my god, god made bad
I love my god, god made me
But I don't wanna pray to my maker
I just wanna be what I see
Not just who I am, but the pink in golden land
And that wide wild sky over me
Help me to the sun, hey I'm looking everywhere
See I'm looking to become not the prayer, but the prayer.
And now I don't wanna pray, no
I say I don't wanna pray, no
And I, I don't wanna pray
I don't wanna pray
I love my god, god made love
I love my god, god made love
I love my god, god made good
I love my god, god made hate
I love my god, god made bad
I love my god, god made
I don't wanna pray to my maker
I just wanna be feelin' free
Not like in a book, or the leaves of trees that shook
From a word that means only not a thing
Pardon god and mom, what I'm sayin' isn't fair
See I'm looking to become, not the prayer but the prayer
And now I don't want to pray
I say I don't wanna pray
I don't wanna pray
Who don't wanna pray
Not much good to talk, better to walk it
Not much good to take, better to give
We are gone forgiven and forgotten of our sins
I promise you my friend all that dies will live again
Pardon god and mom, what I'm sayin' isn't fair
See I'm looking to become, not the prayer but the prayer
And now I don't want to pray
No, they say I don't wanna pray
I don't wanna pray
Who don't wanna pray
I love my god, god made love
I love my god, god made love
I love my god, god made hate
I love my god, god made hate
I love my god, god made good
I love my god, god made good
I love my god, god made bad
I love my god, god made me
I love my god, god made love
I love my god, god made hate
I love my god, god made hate
I love my god, god made good
I love my god, god made good
I love my god, god made bad
I love my god, god made me
I just wanna be what I see
Not just who I am, but the pink in golden land
And that wide wild sky over me

perfect song to describe how i feel about religion/spirituality/god. living in utah, most people can't understand how i believe strongly in a higher power but don't pray or attend church. god is so much bigger than that though. he is everywhere and everything and we should try to be more like him instead of being hypocritical, un-godlike christian conservatives.
This song is such a refreshing, light-hearted take on spirituality.
To the general comment: I completely agree. It really is a refreshing, light-hearted take on spirituality. You don't have to be a bible beater to love God. I don't necessarily think you have to be in church every time the doors are open or even go at all to love God. You don't even have to pray.
"I love my God, God made love." They obviously believe in God and the fact that we're forgiven of our sins.
"I don't wanna pray to my maker I just wanna be feelin' free Not like in a book, or the leaves of trees that shook From a word that means only not a thing Pardon god and mom, what I'm sayin' isn't fair"
I think the above stanza is talking about the desire to love God freely without being persecuted by the rules of the "book" or bible.
Anyone else hear "Allahu Akbar" instead of "I love my god"? I wonder if it's intentional.
I believe the song isn't about god of the christian faith but really the god of any faith. The fact that he says MY god is the reason i believe that. I feel this song is talking about the difference between being spiritual and being religous.
I have to differ on this one. It seems to me that they are actually criticizing people who think action alone is a good form of spirituality.
They are acknowledging the fact that good works are a key part of spirituality, but so is prayer. The lines "they say I don't wanna pray...Who don't wanna pray?" gave this me this idea of the song.
I totally agree with you, @kimber. I find prayer to be such a hard thing, as I can't seem to express more than what I'm thankful for (family, friends, shelter, ect). Once I try and get into how I'm feeling or the things I want, there just aren't words that satisfy my emotions. That's why praying has turned into such a chore for me. As for church, I find it hard to sit and listen to someone else as they try and shove every religious view they have down my throat. I'm independent in all that I do, and the thought of conforming my beliefs to someone else's ideals completely baffles me. God created us to serve his purpose, and I only want to do that in what ever way I feel He is leading me, not as a pastor tells me to.
Clever people being able to understand the meaning of the rule more than the rule itself.
