This is one of my favorite songs. https://fnfgo.io
I was born, the devil's son
Yes my dad, he gave my name
Now my mama keeps saying
Run to the desert
You will see be all that you need to be
Run to the desert
You will see all that you need to see
I woke up to the shadow of a man standing over me
Here in the land of frozen hands
I came out here to kill you father like a Sergio Leoni picture
Gee I hope you understand
And as the red soaked the sand
Run to the desert
You will see all that you need to see
Run to the desert
You will be all that you need to be
Yes my dad, he gave my name
Now my mama keeps saying
Run to the desert
You will see be all that you need to be
Run to the desert
You will see all that you need to see
I woke up to the shadow of a man standing over me
Here in the land of frozen hands
I came out here to kill you father like a Sergio Leoni picture
Gee I hope you understand
And as the red soaked the sand
Run to the desert
You will see all that you need to see
Run to the desert
You will be all that you need to be

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
Magical
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
These were on the official website, but let me know if they're wrong.
In short, this song is amazing. The music is of dream-like quality, especially the quietness of the guitar at 4:09 onwards, as the song is brought down.
The meaning? I'll take a shot in the dark, but I think it's about finding yourself, life beckoning beyond the front door, freeing yourself from the suppression of family influences - infused with an air of teenage rebellion. Definitely something everyone can relate to.
The desert talked about could refer to personal privacy, solitude for one to be able to breathe and make decisions without anyone trying to sway you or make you believe otherwise.
I think that there's a rather dark undertone to this song, as well. In the chorus, there's echo-ey vocals that I think say, "Help me, I'm at a boyfriend's", though I could be wrong. Not to mention the shadow of a distant scream at 4:26. These together could be contradictory to the meaning above, almost like a warning: sure, you're freeing yourself of supression and pressure by running to the desert, but things happen and people take advantage of you while you are in that solitary state of being.
Anyway, that's just what I think. Feel free to contradict.
I'm pretty sure at the echoey parts they're actually saying "Hail Mary, full of Grace". It makes sense because Jesus is mentioned several other times in the album. Especially in Janglin' where he says that the are bringing the message of "The man from Galilee"
I am 99.9% sure that the echo-y vocals are "Hail Mary, full of grace".
From their Facebook note upon film release:
"This is PART 1 of a 12-Part feature-length movie musical. Part 1: Desert Song is about singer Alex Ebert's reckoning with the middle name his father secretly wrote on his birth certificate - a Native American name which means 'Devil' or 'Demon'. The opening footage is of his father chanting in Monument Valley - shot by his mother."
There you go. Straight from the horse's mouth.
...just watch the video.
I would think it'd be "the devil's son," since it's all about his father etc. But if the offish lyrics say "sun," I can't argue with that.
The first time through,
"Run to the desert You will see all that you need to see Run to the desert You will be all that you need to be" its is actually ordered wrong.
"Run to the desert You will be all that you need to be Run to the desert You will see all that you need to see"
but i agree with you, this song is just amazing. Sasquatch this year will be unforgettable!
This song was amazing live, especially the howling in the chorus. I interpret this song, rather literally, as the story of a man sent by his mother to find himself in the desert
