50 Ways to Say Goodbye Lyrics

My heart is paralyzed
My head was over sized
I'll take the highroad like I should!
You said it's meant to be,
that it's not you, it's me
You're leaving now for my own good,
That's cool, but if my friends ask where you are
I'm gonna say:

Chorus:
She went down in airplane...
Fried getting suntanned
Fell in a cement mixer full of quick sand
Help me, help me, I'm no good at goodbye
She met a shark on the water
Fell and no one caught her
I returned everything I ever bought her
Help me, help me, I'm all out of lies
And ways to say you died!

My pride still feels the sting
You were my everything
Someday I'll find a love like yours (a love like yours)
She'll think I'm super man
Not super mini van
how could you leave on Yom Kippur?
That's cool, but if my friends ask where you are
I'm gonna say:

Chorus:
She was caught in a mudslide
Eaten by a lion
Got run over by a crappy purple Scion
Help me, help me, I'm no good at goodbye
She got lost in the desert
drowned in a hot tub
Danced to death in an east side night club
Help me, help me, I'm all out of lies
And ways to say you died!

I wanna live a thousand lives with you
I wanna be the one you're dying to love
But you don't want to
That's cool, but if my friends ask where you are
I'm gonna say
That's cool, but if my friends ask where you are
I'm gonna say

Chorus:
She went down in airplane
Fried getting suntanned
Fell in a cement mixer full of quick sand
Help me, help me, I'm no good at goodbye
She met a shark on the water
Fell and no one caught her
I returned everything I ever bought her
Help me, help me, I'm all out of lies
And ways to say goodbye!
She was caught in a mudslide
Eaten by a lion
Got run over by a crappy purple Scion
Help me, help me, I'm no good at goodbye
She got lost in the desert
drowned in a hot tub
Danced to death in an eastside nightclub
Help me, help me, I'm all out of lies
And ways to say you died!

The song speaks for itself really - what he's singing about is pretty obvious. However, I think they overdo the humor in the song but I think it's done for a purpose because there are a lot of sad lines in the song that you kind of breeze over because of the tone. So not only is he saying that he doesn't want to admit he got dumped but also, he's really hurting over it but is trying to cover his hurt with humor. At least that's how I see it.

This song is obviously about a guy whose girlfriend broke up with him but he is in denial so whenever his friends ask where she is, he lies and makes up a story about how she died. :D

I see the humor in the exaggerated death stories, and it's pretty clear that the singer is trying to cover up some serious pain over a breakup. I think it could be seen a slightly different way, though: in addition to trying to convince his friends with the ridiculous accounts of his ex's demise, he could be trying to bring himself some closure.

That's one interpretation that makes sense in light of my experiences, anyway. My last breakup was difficult for me, partly because the main reason was that she moved across the country -- there were no real problems in the relationship otherwise. It just wasn't logical to stay together over such a long, semi-permanent distance.

I held on for much longer than was healthy, but one thought that finally helped me let go of her (long after she'd moved on) was to cut all ties and pretend that she was as inaccessible as if she had died. I'm no good at goodbyes, but it's helped to destroy all lingering remnants of hope that we might get back together.

The line in which she "danced to death in an east-side nightclub" is especially poignant for me, even though it's because of a loose association: our relationship had grown through our mutual dance hobby, and then her moving-on process involved a lot more dancing after she went east. She met her next boyfriend out there through dance...but I prefer to think that she simply danced to death instead. It hurts less.

This song is hilarious to me. I've always LOVED Train, and this just confirms it for me. =D I think this song is about his girlfriend dumping him, and because he doesn't want to admit to all of his friends that she dumped him, so he told every one of them that she died. In different ways. I think after a while, he obviously ran out of lies and things to say, thus why he says: "Help me help me, I'm all out of lies And ways to say you died." Its pretty straightforward really, and hilarious to me.

My Opinion

100% agree. :D

I like the part where he sings "How could you leave on Yom Kippur?" to get sympathy from the Jewish man in the music video. That was funny!

HAhahahaha yes!

is it just me or does he take the rhythm right out of the Phantom of the Operah theme song??

listen to the part that says "in sleep he sang to me, in dreams he came"...sounds identical. anyway, the lyrics and theme of this song were just sheer genius. by far the mainstream breakup song with the most original lyrics and rhythm.

;O I never noticed that.....wow :D

"is it just me or does he take the rhythm right out of the Phantom of the Operah theme song?"

No, you're definitely not. That's the first thing I thought of when I heard this song, and thought I was going crazy!

Yes!! This was my very first thought when I heard it and the main reason I like it. Made me realize - more musicians should use Phantom of the Opera rhythms in their songs!

This song sound WAY too much like Drive By. Mostly the chorus. Everyone says I'm crazy, but that is what I hear.
