Viking Death March Lyrics

Down, let's take it down
Raise up their heads on a stake
We will show no mercy
On evolution's mistake

Change will have to wait
If we can't decide on a fate
Self-appointed prophets
And their doomsday charade

You preach about love
And teach about faith
But all your beliefs are still rooted in hate

[x2:]
Crosses still burn
Axes still fall
And down on your knees you just don't look so tall

Stop, punch in the clock
Punch it with all of your rage
Put the men in office
For a minimum wage

Rats fighting for scraps
Siphon the gas from your tank
Left your pockets empty
As they laughed to the bank

They speak about trust
But make no mistake
They're shaking your hand while they spit in your face

[x2:]
Crosses still burn
Axes still fall
And down on your knees you just don't look so tall

Now, the time is now
We can still turn it around
Raise your voice like a weapon
'Til they fall to the ground

Light, let there be light
Without a shadow of doubt
We will fight tooth and nail
Until salvation is found

So how can you look the world in the eyes
When all we can see is corruption and lies

Down on your knees you don't look so tall [x2]

Cracking the whip on the backs of the poor
We asked you to stop but you still wanted more
The blood on your hands left a trail as you crawl
Down on your knees you just don't look so tall

[x3:]
Crosses still burn
Axes still fall
Down on your knees you just don't look so tall

Crosses still burn
Axes still fall
Down on your knees you don't look so tall
Open your eyes and the empire falls

I think this song is clearly not about vikings. With this song they critize society. (sorry for my bad english)

"Stop, punch in the clock, punch it with all of your rage put the men in the office for a minimum wage"

People nowadays have jobs they don't like, to get money they dont need. The Company's, the Governments, the Banks rob the people.

Many parts are similar to this.

Now, the time is now, we can still turn it around Raise your voice like a weapon 'till they fall to the ground Light, let there be light, without a shadow of doubt We will fight tooth and nail until salvation is found.

Here they also speak about an revolution. We should fight for a better World.

"Open your eyes and the empire falls"

People need to know whats really going on right now. They should awake from their dream of the "perfect world" and fight the empire until it falls.

But I have no idea why they called the Song "Viking Death March". I also don't get the chourous.

My Interpretation

"Light, let there be light, without a shadow of doubt"

Doesn't it sound like the "Age of Enlightment"? You should think about everything yourself and you should have your own opinion about that. One reason of some reasons that the revolution in France happened in 1789.

"Raise your voice like a weapon " This could be a reference to Mahatma Ghandi who ended the British Colonialisation in India withouth weapons, just by the power of his believes and his non violent resistence.

I agree with Morgia's interpretation.

The song is clearly about the condition Society is in today, but there's even more evidence to support that.

"We will show no mercy On Evoulution's mistake"

We've evolved into consumers, and a conglomerate society that doesn't fully embrace our potential. There are plenty of great musicians who work in corer stores, plenty of great artists stuck as school teachers. It's saying we should change that with no mercy.

"Change will have to wait If we can't decide on a fate" We don't know where our future is headed, and until we realize that, we cannot do anything to change it.

"you preach about love And teach about faith But all your beliefs are still rooted in hate"

Possibly apathy towards others. So many people go about saying that the way to create a better world is to care for others, however there are still plenty of people who hate their day job, boss, or even someone they don't like instead of trying to get to know them and possibly even grow to like that person.

Or possible Hypocritites preaching love, despite possibly being racist or discriminating against others.

"You preach about love and teach about faith but all your beliefs are still rooted in hate"

This leads me to believe that it's about corruption within the Catholic Church. I think it's pretty much saying that the corrupt members are hypocrites who don't really believe in what they preach about.

The chorus relates to the corruption of religion, precisely the Catholic Church. How there should be many crosses too burn

Crosses still burn, axes still fall and down on your knees you just don't look so tall

And the last part relates to during your prayer you go on your knees and how foolish they look

In a interview for a dutch magazine the band said that it's about standing up for yourself. You can change the world if you set yourself to it.

Great song, reminds me of Rage Against the Machine lyrics.

Anger is a Gift- Zack de la Rocha

This song suggests Political Reform/ the Fall of the Bastille & compares it to today's hardships. The heads on a stake are King Louie XVI/today's wealthy who take more than they need. It's based on the French Revolution when the royals used up the towns wealth for themselves. The Enlightenment period went on & people began thinking for themselves instead of just obeying and following the royals. Religion was questioned & any form of authority. The Guillotine was invented & much blood was shed.

I think the title "Viking Death March" is a metaphor for "Fight Song"

I think this is about Saint Boniface getting killed in Frisia
