Make Believe Lyrics

They took everything you want
Wrapped it in a box
And locked it in a keep
Made of high-rise stucco walls
With polyester guards
Moving out of sync
I hunt with curtain rod swords
And shields of cardboard
On two wheeled steeds
I storm the cul-de-sac
To get things back on track
And bring you what you need

You would do the same for me
But I might've lost my mind

I can never show you what you gave to me
A shape and form of make believe
I wouldn't want to stay here in my incomplete
Shaken up realities

I'll give everything I've got
To fill the canyon
With useless debris
From plastic foliage
Collected catalogues
And other fakery
I'll sentence everyone
Over twenty-one
To the guillotines
They never understood
Our neck of the woods
And what it all means

This is not a game for me
But I might've lost my mind

I can never show you what you gave to me
A shape and form of make believe
I wouldn't like to stay here in my incomplete
Shaken up realities
You shake up reality

You would do the same for me
But I might've lost my mind

I can never show you what you gave to me
A shape and form of make believe
I wouldn't like to stay here in my incomplete
Shaken up realities
I'd really like to be there when you raise for me
A shape and form of make believe
I wish I could just warn you of my incomplete
Shaken up realities
You shake up reality

I think this song is, kind of like Bloody Mary, about someone who was in a bad position as a child (I.E. getting hit, or abused) who looked forward to playing "Make Believe" with his friend. It was the only thing he'd love to do, act like he isn't really an abused child but instead an imaginary character ( A knight of some sorts?). And the verse is him describing to his friend how without him, he might have not been able to survive the abuse... I don't know, thats just the way I heard it...

My Interpretation

Lets take a jab at this one, shall we? I feel like this is about a relationship(of course right) but maybe not one that ever happened. Childhood friends playing "make believe" games as kids, but eventually he turns to have feelings for her. As they get older he wants to tell her and confess his love. He will give her everything she needs, just like in their world of make believe. But he feels that he hasn't quite figured himself out just yet. He feels like he is still stuck in the wrong mindset with her, thats why she "shakes" his "reality" It really comes together for me when this line comes up "I wish I could just warn you of my incomplete" he wants to tell her his feelings, but also admit that he isn't in the best state of mind to be with her, but he can't cross that boundary, unless its in his world of "make believe" just my opinion.
