Here We Are (Chancer) Lyrics

Here we are
Underneath a million leaves
In shadows of
Compromising scenes

When I was young
I dreamed this would be
Steamier

But I got one chance to move you
One chance to move you
So here we are

I'm running out
A source to let you down
I can call it all
Or gain higher ground

Look overdrawn
Is all that so round
Is it easier

If it's the right time to lose you
Right time to lose you
So here we are

Here we are
Here we are
Here we are
Here we are

I got one chance to move you
One chance to move you
Is it the right time to lose you
Right time to lose you

pretty sure i am hearing the second paragraph as

"When I was young I dreamed this would be Steamier"

Definitely sounds like the life and death of a relationship.

"Here we are, underneath a million leaves, In shadows of compromising scene. When I was young, I dreamed this would be steamier.

I've got one chance to move you."

This is the beginning of the relationship, young lovers.

"I'm running out of sounds to let you down. I can't call it off, or gain higher ground. Luck of the draw is all that's allowed. Is it easier?

Is it the right time to lose you?"

This is the end of the relationship, an argumentative couple.

My Interpretation

My thought is the song is directed to an audience who is unfamiliar with the band.

The"million leaves" could be a literal description of what he sees from the stage of an outdoor music festival. He had dreams of being a performer, but it hasn't measured up to his expectation.

He has one chance to move the audience.

If I was sitting on the lawn listening to these guys, that line would make my ears perk. There they are - the least I could do is listen. And if you've already made up your mind that you don't like the band, well, it certainly is "the right time to lose you."
