Like a lot of the other comments are saying, I think this mainly about voyeurism. If the song was about his girlfriend, then why would he use the word spy. If you are a spy it means you shouldn't be caught, that is kind of the whole point, and if you are a voyeur, the whole point of the pleasure you get from it, is the fact that the other people don't know you are watching them. See a bit of a connection there?

The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

One of my favorite songs on the new album.
You're close. It alternates. The first chorus says "Enter Venus", the goddess of love and beauty. The second chorus says, "as you intervene us", since the best friend of the speaker AND boyfriend of the woman mentioned in the song walks in on the speaker and woman. The last one says "as you intravenous", since it follows from the line "he cleaned up a needle to fly and told me goodbye". The betrayed boyfriend/best friend does drugs to "cure heartache" and ends up overdosing. <br /> <br /> The song itself is a story. It starts with the speaker and his best friend out together. The best friend's girlfriend comes in, and the speaker falls in love/lust with her. The woman and the speaker have an affair and they get caught. A "seer" is someone who can see things before they happen. The speaker knew that they would be caught by the boyfriend/best friend and that he would take it extremely hard, leading to his heartbreak and/or eventual suicide.<br /> <br /> This song is insanely amazing.
I think intervene us makes more sense.. the song to me is clearly about a man walking in on his friend having an affair with his girl. Although what RoleMartyrX says makes sense, even though I can't distinguish between the intervene us lines, they all sound like "intervene us" to me.
