Good Morning Lyrics

Good morning
My thoughts on leaving are back on the table
I thought you should know
And maybe powerful actions
Or powerful feelings
Will keep me from going

I’m folding my hand, hand
I’m folding my hand, hand

Good morning
Why did you do it?
I couldn’t sleep
I knew you were gone
Our loving is all I was after
But you couldn’t give it
So I’m moving on

I’m folding my hand, hand
I’m folding my hand, hand

Cover art for Good Morning lyrics by Norah Jones

I believe "I'm folding my hand" refers to a card game, like poker. It implies that either her lover or both of them have been approaching the relationship like a game, with bluffs and secrets.

She's grown tired of the drama and lies, so she "folds her hand" and opts out of the game.

The first part of the song is an ultimatum. She's letting him know she's folding her hands and it's up to him to save this relationship because she's done trying. The second part is the next day, and he didn't try. I think he may have left in anger after the ultimatum, and she slept alone, but she "couldn't sleep" because she knew he "was gone." He came home the next day, and she kept her promise and left him because all she wanted was him to prove that he could show her the love that he used to, but he "couldn't give it," so she leaves him for good.

Song Meaning

I think is a lyric about thinking in suicide for reason of a break up. So, shes folding her hands to not give it a freedom to kill herself and waiting for powerfull actions and powerfull feelings that will keep her from going. I think its kinda really depressing song, but extremely beautiful. I have always urderstood that way, but I dont know, maybe the commentary before mine makes more sense now.
