After The Fall Lyrics
I never told you about the summer
Everyday was changing
Only photographs
But life goes on
In your mind so warm
Out on my own now
And I like the way it feels
You couldn’t come through
And I’m too far gone
After the fall
Do you still want it all?
You never told me about the winter
Everyday was changing
But I remember
But life went on
In my mind so cold
Out on your own now
Do you like the way it feels?
Didn’t I come through?
You were too far gone
After the fall
I still want it all
Everyday was changing
Only photographs
But life goes on
In your mind so warm
And I like the way it feels
You couldn’t come through
And I’m too far gone
Do you still want it all?
Everyday was changing
But I remember
But life went on
In my mind so cold
Do you like the way it feels?
Didn’t I come through?
You were too far gone
I still want it all

I think she was depressed, and it ultimately tore them apart. He seemed warm and happy, like summer, so she assumed he was happy despite her depression. But, he never told her about the winter - her cold, disconnected behavior. He experienced it too, but didn't know how to make her happy again. The strain must have ruined their relationship. The fall is a play on words like summer meaning "happy mind" and winter meaning "depressed mind" fall (like autumn) represents the "ultimate breaking point" in the relationship. She wonders now, after she knows that he wasn't oblivious or immune to her needs, if he'd still want her back after the fall.
Exactly my thoughts. This song really hits home for me.

I think this song is related to her previous album "The fall", which is all about the end of a relationship… I think "after the fall" talks about the reconstruction of both of them after all happened… And it is a great metaphor to use the seasons… and i think she puts herself in a worse position.. because she says "in your mind so warm" and then "In my mind so cold"…. And it's also funny the she assumes that now all she and he have to do is move on… although "After the fall I still want it all…" Beautiful! that's just the way love is… great poetry, I just love her work with music!!!
