Stampede Lyrics

I'll never see you
I'll never see you
I'll never, ever see you again

And in my heart
I'm always feeling something

You got away
You got away
You run away
Oh, you're like a stampede in the dark

You got away
You got away
You run away
Oh, you're like a stampede in the dark

In the dark
In the dark
In the dark

In the dark
In the dark
In the dark

So this time I make sure
I really make sure
I'll never, ever see you again

And in my days of loathing
You still haunt me

You got away
You got away
You run away
Oh, you're like a stampede in the dark

You got away
You got away
You run away
Oh, you're like a stampede in the dark

And I swear that someday
I'll be sorry
And I swear that someday
I'll be sorry
Yeah, I swear someday
That I'll be sorry
Yeah, I swear someday
That I'll be sorry
I'll be sorry

You got away
You got away
You run away
Oh, you're like a stampede in the dark

And I swear someday
I'll be sorry
Yeah, I swear someday
That I'll be sorry

In the dark
In the dark
In the dark
Yeah I'll be sorry

In the dark
In the dark
In the dark

Cover art for Stampede lyrics by Sucre

This song is definitely about someone pushing someone else away, thinking they'd be much happier if they were gone for good. Years down the line though, it is obvious the speaker wants said person back but burned the bridge at that point because of the awful thing they did to push the other away. They are forever "in the dark". Seems like towards the latter half of the album her focus shifts to someone who is extremely messy and intimacy fearing on the inside. Stacy is a wonderful story teller!

I kind of think rather, that it's the aftermath of a relationship in which the person who Stacy is singing to messed up badly enough to ruin the relationship. She's trying to tell herself and convince herself that she will never see him again; that she'll make sure she never sees him again.

But even as she's hating him, loathing him, she still feels for him, still is haunted by him, still wants/needs him on some level. She feels like he's gotten away even though she knows she has to make sure she doesn't see him again because of what he's done. And even though she is angry at him and knows its the right thing to do, to push him away, she knows she can't help but feel sorry once it sinks in, now that she's all alone.
