I wake up again and I'm cold and alone
I roll over to check the time on my phone
And it's died in my sleep and I don't know what to do
I got no coins left to top the meter up too

I pull my blanket tight and walk down the stairs
My jeans are so ripped, they're barely covering the hairs on my legs
But at least I got a roof over my head

Barely twenty years ago my job would pay my bills
A wife, two kids, a mortgage and holiday thrills
Now I open my fridge and have to decide between
A stale crust of bread or half a tangerine

Cos this doesn't make sense, I can drive to work
If I don't eat breakfast and don't replace my shirt
It's pretty messed up, I know I'm not alone
When millions of others don't even have a home

What the hell are we supposed to do
Life costs too much, we're in a

Cost of living crisis
Cost of living crisis
Cost of living crisis

Well it takes an hour to get to my job
Then my day starts and for a whole other slog
And the overtime comes and I leave work late
I promise I don't choose it, its actually what I hate

And the pay packet just about cover my bills
I haven't eaten lunch and my stomach really kills
But I can't afford to be paid any less
I'm burning out real fast, but I'm caught up in this mess

Thank god I am alone, with no responsibility
Imagine not eating when your kids rely on me
Imagine having to chose between
Eating food to live, or getting your clothes clean

This is the reality of the country we are in
Food costs rise and wages crunch, everyone complaining
Emergency workers can't even afford
To live to do their jobs, and food banks bare to the floor

What the hell are we supposed to do
Life costs too much, we're in a

Cost of living crisis
Cost of living crisis
Cost of living crisis

Now the winter rolls in and were freezing
And the people of yesterday are dying
Cos the ambulances are overrun
Hundreds of people waiting to see someone

And you can't get to work, the roads are shut
And the rail network is also really messed up
So your employer won't pay the work you've not done
But you also have to live, this really ain't fun

And your bills are hiking through the roof
The extra money is basically a spoof
Cos it goes nowhere remotely close
To heating a kettle or making some toast

What the hell can we do?
No one has capacity to even consider the zoo
Of the state of our politics
These elitists tell us they care for us

What the hell are we supposed to do
Life costs too much, we're in a

Cost of living crisis
Cost of living crisis
Cost of living crisis
