Lost in the Light Lyrics
I'm lost in the light
I pray for the night
To take me, to take me to
After so many words
Still nothing's heard
Don't know what we should do
So if someone could see me now, let them see you
It was my greatest thrill
But we just stood still
You let me hold your hand 'til I had my thrill
Even countin' sheep
Don't help me sleep
I just toss and turn right there beside you
So if someone could help me now, they'd help you too
They'd help you to
See you through
All the hard things we've all gotta do
'Cause this life is long
And so you wouldn't be wrong
Bein' free leaving me on my own
And I held my own
Still I rattled your bones
I said some awful things and I take them back
If we would try again
Just remember when
Before we were lovers, I swear we were friends
So if someone could see me now, let them see you
Let them see you
See you through
All the hard things we've all gotta do
'Cause this life is long
So you wouldn't be wrong
Bein' free here with me on my own
I pray for the night
To take me, to take me to
After so many words
Still nothing's heard
Don't know what we should do
So if someone could see me now, let them see you
It was my greatest thrill
But we just stood still
You let me hold your hand 'til I had my thrill
Even countin' sheep
Don't help me sleep
I just toss and turn right there beside you
So if someone could help me now, they'd help you too
They'd help you to
See you through
All the hard things we've all gotta do
'Cause this life is long
And so you wouldn't be wrong
Bein' free leaving me on my own
And I held my own
Still I rattled your bones

Let them see you
See you through
All the hard things we've all gotta do
'Cause this life is long
So you wouldn't be wrong
Bein' free here with me on my own

"You let me hold your hand 'til I had my fill..."
In both choruses it's, "Being free, leaving me on my own."
I agree completely. it makes no sense to say "being free, you and me, on my own" and I always thought it was till i had my fill as well.

Direct quote from Afie:
"This is a song about the death of a relationship. On one hand, you mourn its loss. On the other, you celebrate all that was good about it while acknowledging all of its flaws. It’s about acceptance and revelation. It’s just a song that’s trying to make sense of something that was complex…"
This song resonates with me so much because of my 12 year history with the father of my kids.
This is (as someone said before) about the death of a relationship. I say death and not ending, because it's such an intense and heavy kind of painful acceptance. It's a love that never died, but the respect and trust and joy of it has died. There are issues that cannot be resolved, but if love were enough, they would stay together. It's the beautiful acceptance that is similar to having to let someone go in death.
"So if someone can see me now let them see you too" ... if there is such a thing as a god, any spiritual greater consciousness just supposed to help us in these tough times, I hope it helps you too.
"Cause this life is long, so you wouldn't be wrong, beings free leaving me on my own"....
This is what I had to do. And he seemed to love me enough to let me go.... that's what this song is about. Real love doesn't mean it has to be a never ending relationship, sometimes we must let go of the ones we love the most, sometimes it's what's best for both and its for their happiness as well as our own.
