Heavy Prey Lyrics

Betrayed by your kiss
Hurry finish
You wasted your chance, unprovoked
So I bleed, till it is finished
And reprove that my gifts, not revoked

And I won't repent from this
I won't repent from this
Blood is binding
Love you were meant for this
But you weren't meant for this
Life by dying

Your my flesh and blood
Your my flesh and blood

You'll never feel at home
All your questions
They start to grow
They won't give you any answers
And they lie about what they don't know

But I won't repent from this
I won't repent from this
Blood is binding
Love you were meant for this
But you weren't meant for this
Life by dying

I won't repent from this
I won't repent from this
Blood is binding
Love you were meant for this
But you weren't meant for this love

You're my flesh and blood
You're my flesh and blood

You only know
My heart when it's cold
But it burns
When I hear my inflection in your voice
Don't you see the truth
All for you

I won't repent from this
I won't repent from this
Blood is binding
Love you were meant for this
But you weren't meant for this
Life by dying

I won't repent from this
I won't repent from this
Blood is binding
Love you were meant for this
But you weren't meant for this love

You're my flesh and blood
You're my flesh and blood
You're my flesh and blood!

This thoughts appear in the Underworld Awakening Soundtrack. For me the meaning behind this song relates to the movie. When it says " I won’t repent from this blood is binding" Means Selene will kill everyone who stands in the way between her and her daughter. Blood is biding meaning the relation between them.

Also can be referring when Selene is protecting the daughter and doesn't want to get her involved. That's why she says "Love you were meant for this, But you weren't meant for this". Selene knew the capabilities of her daughter but still the pain to lose her as she lost Michael is too great.

Most of the songs is about the thoughts of Selene about the whole war, daughter... Basically the whole movie!

This is my thoughts, but it can have many other meanings.

Fun fact: Lacey hadn't even seen the movie before writing this song. (source:http://noisecreep.com/flyleaf-lacey-sturm/)

Based on the position of the song on the tracklist, so close to the beginning, I think it could even be from the point of view of Eve (Selene's daughter).

The bleeding could be part of the experiments she is subjected to.

"Love, you were meant for this, but you weren't meant for this life by dying" could be a reference to Selene's frozen, comatose state. Although all Eve knows is being a subject of experiments, she can't stand the thought of her mother not being aware she is even alive.

"You'll never feel at home anywhere you go" could be about the fact that Selene is brought back into a world she doesn't recognize.

"They won't give you any answers, and they lie about what they don't know" The man at Antigen, who "let her go" tries to lie to her about what he doesn't know and such.

etc.

This song reminds me of Judas. Starting from 'Betrayed by a kiss' and 'I won't repent from this'

Although Judas realized his sins, he never repented.

If anyone knows the real meaning of this song, I hope they post it. I think this song is good, but I'm not sure about it's contents.

My Opinion

The first verse of the song alludes to Judas's betrayal of Jesus from Jesus' perspective. "Betrayed by your kiss, hurry finish" seems to refer about Jesus' implied discomfort in knowing the man who is kissing him will be the one that betrays him. "You wasted your chance, I'm provoked" refers to the coming judgement. "So I'll bleed 'till it is finished." Refers to Christ dying on the cross and famously saying: "It Is Finished".

The chorus seems to allude to Jesus' resolve in his judgement towards Judas, but explains his simultaneous regret that Judas must suffer. "I won't repent from this, blood is binding" - The Resolve. "Love you were meant for this but you weren't meant from this life I'm dying." Refers to the fact that it was Judas' destiny to betray Jesus and that although Jesus' blood was spilled for him, Jesus knew he would not take the gift. "But you weren't meant for this love. You're my Flesh and Blood." Is a pretty deep one. It is either an expression of the brotherly love Jesus felt for Judas more generally. or perhaps it is a more direct reference to Adam's statement in Genesis upon seeing his love: "This is flesh of my flesh and bone of my bone."

The second verse refers to the madness, confusion and suffering in hell.

The second chorus is a repetition of the first.

The bridge is a pretty heartbreaking statement of how Judas will suffer but Christ regrets the righteousness wasted in his descent into hell. "But it burns (my heart) when I hear my inflection in your voice" referring to the inherent good that exists in all of man.

Yeah it's a pretty religiously focused song like most of Lacey's music but like most of her music, if you weren't Christian you would have no idea it was Christian in the first place. Lots of little Easter eggs hidden in there.
