We didn't need a story, we didn't need a real world
We just had to keep walking
And we became the stories, we became the places
We were the lights, the deserts, the faraway worlds
We were you before you even existed
Carry on, carry on, carry on
And after us the flood
Carry on, carry on, carry on
Our silver horn it leads the way
Banners of gold shine
In the cold, in the cold, in the cold
Footprints of snow
Blind from the road
Fade...
We carry on, carry on
Follow us, we are one
The battle's fought, the deed is done
Our silver hum runs dark and strong
Hand to the heart, lips to the horn
We can stand ?
Hand on my breast, I'll keep you warm
Fade...
We just had to keep walking
And we became the stories, we became the places
We were the lights, the deserts, the faraway worlds
We were you before you even existed
And after us the flood
Carry on, carry on, carry on
Our silver horn it leads the way
Banners of gold shine
In the cold, in the cold, in the cold
Footprints of snow
Blind from the road
Fade...
Follow us, we are one
The battle's fought, the deed is done
Our silver hum runs dark and strong
Hand to the heart, lips to the horn
We can stand ?
Hand on my breast, I'll keep you warm
Fade...

The line at the end is:
"We can save, we can be reborn"
A song that finally deserves the word "epic".
First song of the most fantastic road trip ever taken.
Or, this song, on repeat, as the soundtrack to the best road trip ever.
That song is stunning. I guess the words can speak for themselfs, no need to waste time interpretatin' them.. just feeling.
the lyrics could use some editing, but i love this song. so hopeful and so epic. and i love the female guest vocals in it too. for the longest time i thought it was florence welch (from florence and the machine) but i just found out it's actually a woman named zola jesus. fooled me! i think they sound exactly alike! anyway, i love this song. gorgeous. also, i think the bit in the beginning is supposed to be stars talking. "we were you before you even existed" especially makes sense in that light, since we're made from the same stuff as stars, which have been around forever. and we know the band loves astronomy, so, yeah. that's my thoughts. carry on ;)

Does anyone know what they mean by "we were you before you even existed"? I get what the stanza before that is getting at...I just don't exactly know this part. Thanks.
i think that line is talking about the stars. i think that whole part is supposed to be the stars talking. humans are made from stardust (literally) so that makes the line make more sense, i think. plus, we already know m83 loves astronomy (hence the name) so yeah, hope that helps!
