Afraid of Sunrise [Album Version] [Version] Lyrics
Dressed in black, no turning back
We blanked out on the Great White Way
Fingers in desire's crack
We'd bridge and tunnel into day
Abandoned to the salt of skin
Abandoned to the highway
Sand running in the hourglass
Heat of leather and mirages
So how do we now come to be afraid of sunlight
So how do we now come to be afraid of sunlight
Day-Glo Jesus on the dash
Scorch marks on the road ahead
Friendly fire in hostile waters
Keep the faith, don't lose your head
Don't lose your head
So how do we now come to be afraid of sunlight
Afraid of Sunlight
Agave flower
Sleep beside me
Driving on
Nevada's burning
Phoenix rising
Driving on
To sunlight
Day-Glo Jesus on the dash
Scorch marks on the road ahead
Friendly fire in hostile waters
Keep the faith, don't lose your head
Don't lose your head
So how do we now come to be afraid of sunlight
How do we now come to be afraid
Afraid of sunlight
We blanked out on the Great White Way
Fingers in desire's crack
We'd bridge and tunnel into day
Abandoned to the salt of skin
Abandoned to the highway
Sand running in the hourglass
Heat of leather and mirages
So how do we now come to be afraid of sunlight
Scorch marks on the road ahead
Friendly fire in hostile waters
Keep the faith, don't lose your head
Don't lose your head
Afraid of Sunlight
Sleep beside me
Driving on
Nevada's burning
Phoenix rising
Driving on
To sunlight
Scorch marks on the road ahead
Friendly fire in hostile waters
Keep the faith, don't lose your head
Don't lose your head
How do we now come to be afraid
Afraid of sunlight
Ok, i could be totally off here, but to me, I have always thought Afraid of Sunlight was another term for death. So this song, at least how I hear it is about the newly dead, waking up in the afterlife. The song seems to be setting up these images of being in a car, driving on, and it’s like someone is remembering certain things, dayglow jesus on the dash etc. And they are lost and confused wondering How do we now come to be afraid of sunlight, teassuring themselves with keep the faith dont lose your head. I thought this because of the line agave flower sleep beside me. I think they had a car accident and they awoke in the afterlife and it’s about the new confusion and trying to figure out how they got there. Like i said, could be way off base. But regardless, Afraid of Sunrise, Out Of This World and Afraid of Sunlight in that order on the album ive always felt was one of the most powerful and awesome musical statements Marillion or anybody for that matter, have ever made. They are linked in some way and smack dab in the middle of the album. Just amazing.
