The album is called Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes, but a major theme of the album seems to be getting past those hard times. This song is no exception. It's the song of someone with plenty of scars and healed injuries looking to those who have fallen on hard times and saying, hey, it's gonna be alright. It's one part Story of My Life, one part Gotta Know the Rules, and one part Down Here With the Rest of Us.

I'm not sure what Gimme the Sweet and Lowdown means, but it sure is a catchy phrase, and somehow, overwhelmingly positive.

truly about hard times and overcoming them, cant say this song didnt help me with hard times myself. The video sums up mikes hard times and is amazingly well done. I love this band !
