Pearl's Dream Lyrics
There's a place I must go
There's a place I must go
It's not a place I have seen
But I'll get there in a blue dream
Down an ocean road
Past a sign that says 'good love town'
Into a darkness where the stars do drown
Where the starry me needs to be free
And when the battle was done
I was promised my sun
But with a thousand nights gone
To any kingdom I run
And when the battle was done
I was promised my sun
But with a thousand knights gone
To any kingdom I run
There's a place I must go
There's a place I must go
For my heart is a child
That stumbles lonely for the arms of the wild
Hear the desert sigh
Sing the city's lullaby
The giant iris of the wide blue sky
Showing me the way
And when the battle was done
I was promised my son
But with a thousand knights gone
To any kingdom I run
And when the battle was done
I was promised my son
But with a thousand knights gone
To any kingdom I run
You know that it's time to go up, up, up, up, up
Had a big machine riding your shoulders
You know that it's time to go up, up, up, up, up
Had a big machine riding your shoulders
You know that it's time to go up, up, up, up, up
Had a big machine riding your shoulders
There's a place I must go
It's not a place I have seen
But I'll get there in a blue dream
Past a sign that says 'good love town'
Into a darkness where the stars do drown
Where the starry me needs to be free
I was promised my sun
But with a thousand nights gone
To any kingdom I run
I was promised my sun
But with a thousand knights gone
To any kingdom I run
There's a place I must go
For my heart is a child
That stumbles lonely for the arms of the wild
Sing the city's lullaby
The giant iris of the wide blue sky
Showing me the way
I was promised my son
But with a thousand knights gone
To any kingdom I run
I was promised my son
But with a thousand knights gone
To any kingdom I run
Had a big machine riding your shoulders
You know that it's time to go up, up, up, up, up
Had a big machine riding your shoulders
You know that it's time to go up, up, up, up, up
Had a big machine riding your shoulders

The Video...it makes me think that the song ties in with the idea of the Two Suns album. That the two suns are Natasha, and Pearl, and that Pearl actually has the suns, but Natasha was promised hers if she won some battle...(Maybe the battle between the dark people in Daniel?? just a though) but then Pearl went back on her promise.
Or maybe it's like she was promised her sun for winning the battle, and the video is the stage of where she was to be given the sun, and when Pearl doesn't give her the sun, maybe she realizes she should run (to any kingdom). Then Pearl goes and tries to take over Natasha's body (since Pearl is a state of mind that only comes out every once in a while) or in essence Natasha becomes a bad person, but then Pearl is killed by the magical protection of the wolf, and planet...thus in a way Natasha is not giving into the temptation to become a greedy indulgent person; who is symbolized as Pearl...
Again with the idea of the Two suns though, maybe the whole idea is that you can't live without darkness in your life, or Pearl, or the other sun, that they need to be equal? Or maybe that if Darkness (Pearl) is engulfing your life then you don't get a sun, and in order to you need get the sun you need to defeat Pearl.
I dunno...maybe I'm reading wayyy to much into it, but whatever...it's a fun and cool song, and it's fun making up storied based on them! :)
Speaking of books, I didn't pay much attention to the lyrics of this song before reading "Hollow Crown," a historical novel about Queen Emma of Normandy (wife of Aethelred the Unready and Cnut the Great, mother of Harthnacnut and Edward the Confessor). Stand by for geekdom.
Anyway, my ears finally pricked up when I heard the chorus again in the middle of reading the book, and I automatically interpreted it it as:
"And when the battle was done I was promised my son But with a thousand knights gone To any kingdom I run"
Queen Emma went into exile twice after fighting for her sons' crowns, and once held the city of London against Cnut (her future husband) and the Danes for a very long and costly siege - both in lives and morale. So I couldn't help but imagine Queen Emma praying for her son's and her lives while fleeing England, while listening to this song.
Doesn't have a freakin' thing to do with the rest of the song but I like thinking of it this way!
I'm pretty sure it's 'But I'll get there in a blue dream' and 'that stumbles lonely for the arms the wild'.
I've always thought that instead of 'son' it could be 'sun', just to match the theme of the album. I'm not certain of that fully though.
it is sun.
it is sun.
Two... two comments for the ONE Bat for Lashes song I can't stop replaying.
Any clarification on whether or not it's knights or nights. Since this person seems to think it's sun and not son then the nights would fit more than the knights.
It probably is nights, seeing as this person got most of the lyrics wrong (no offence). I'm curious about the machine which she mentions. I think it's about Pearl wanting some recognition. I'll have a proper analyisis of it after some re-listening.
there's a place i must go there's a place i must go it's not a place i have seen but i'll get there in a new dream down the ocean road past a sign that says 'good left town' into a darkness where the stars do drown but a star in me needs to be free

Here are the lyrics again with some corrections I made. I went ahead and made it "sun" and "nights". I hope when I get the cd booklet it has lyrics so I can verify.
I think this song is about Pearl believing that her battles will let her find love and happiness (my sun) but she realizes shes still in the dark
There was another song that was sung on tour last year called Pearl Dreams, not Pearl's Dream, as shown through this youtube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpVgjZSlyVw
Anyway, turns out it's from the film 'The Night Of The Hunter', 1:54 in to the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFzTBPy7nl8
I personally found it quite interesting.
no no no the first interpretation's lyrics of "past a sign that says 'good love town'" are right, not "good left town" it's an obvious reference to her song good love.
