Liar (It Takes One to Know One) Lyrics

All our secrets, they are daily trouble
Drip loose knot around your hips
Your spotless instincts are valid
We coexist
Got twenty six days to work with (got twenty, six days)
We got twenty six days to work with (it moves, it moves, it moves)
We'll see what all gets done

I'm an addict for dramatics
I confuse the two for love
You can tell me that you don't bend

[Chorus]
Liar (liar)
If we're keeping score
We're all choir boys at best
(Intrusive and arrogant)
Liar (liar)
If we're keeping score
We're all choir boys at best
(Interesting and arrogant)

Got twenty, six days to work with (got twenty six days)
Then back on that island
That you swear by
You barely can't afford
It's still a question of
How long will this hold?
Well, is it any different
Now that we are home?
Don't you know they're not here, not now?
(It moves, it moves, it moves)
Not here, not now

I'm an addict for dramatics
I confuse the two for love
You can tell me don't bend

[Chorus]

We're all choir boys at best

[Chorus]

Liar (liar)
Liar (liar)
It takes one to know one

this is what the song means to me:

All our secrets they are tailored trouble Draped loose now around your hips--they try to keep their secrets cleverly but they tend to slip out Your spotless instincts are valid We co-exist--they both know what eachother is hiding Got 26 days to work with (got 26 days) We've got 26 days to work with (it moves, it moves, it moves) We'll see what all gets done--theres only a limited time to see what happens with the relationship

I'm an addict for dramatics I confuse the two for love--he/she "thinks" he/she is in love with additiction and drama You can't tell me that you don't beg

Liar (liar) If we're keeping score Then we're all choir boys at best (intrusive and arrogant)--an image is put on to be innocent but really deep down there is a darker more evil side Liar (liar) If we're keeping score Then we're all choir boys at best (intrusive and arrogant)

Got 26 days to work with (got 26 days)--a reminder that time is limited Then back on that island That you swear by Still barely can afford It's still a question of "How long will this hold?"--how long will the relation stand its circumstances? "Well is it any different now that we are..." (I said we are patient) "Oh, don't you go there, not here, not now" (it moves, it moves, it moves) Not here, not now ---trying to work things out but doesnt want to admit what has been done

I'm an addict for dramatics I confuse the two for love- You can't tell me that you don't beg

Liar (liar) If we're keeping score Then we're all choir boys at best (intrusive and arrogant) Liar (liar) If we're keeping score Then we're all choir boys at best (intrusive and arrogant)

Yeah, we're all choir boys at best

Liar (liar) If we're keeping score Then we're all choir boys at best (intrusive and arrogant) Liar (liar) If we're keeping score Then we're all choir boys at best (intrusive and arrogant)

on the making the video for this song adam said it was about liars...whether you are one or you know one. so the title is pretty straight forward.

In reference to the "26 days" being repeated over and over again in the song: could it possibly be in reference to the female mestruation cycle? Hold on, let me explain. I first thought of this when I heard the song: 26? what an odd number to sing about.
As everyone is well aware, some months contain 31 days. Quick math: 31-5=26 (5 days is the 'normal' time period for a woman of age to begin & complete her menses). "We've got 26 days to work with (it moves, it moves, it moves)" I know this is a shot in the dark, but perhaps the songwriters are referring to the path of the 'discharge' (trying not to be too graphic or gross about this) through his girlfriend, how he's got 26 days of 'normalcy' before it's "back on that island that you swear by."
When his girlfriend is in menses, he feels isolated on the "island," perhaps self-seclusion from his girlfriend's hightened state of emotionality, which sometimes accompanies the menstrual cycle. Evidence of this can be seen in the "liar, liar" refrain of the song, which symbolizes the many arguments that the couple has, possibly on a cycle of 26 days since they're "keeping score." Another reference is the "all our secrets they are tailored trouble draped loose now around your hips" line, which could be a direct reference to the menstual cycle and the boyfriend's frustration of being denied carnal pleasure until the 5 days are complete, hence his lamenting/bitching about the 26-day cycle. In closing, I think the vidoe for "Liar" is awesome, the polygraph motif is a unique touch and really brought out the lyrics of the song.

Yeah..well they both are amazing bands...and this has nothing to do with John Nolan...that was overa while ago, in order to get this ne yu have to think about Adam's personality..he lies alot..everything on th loudernow album is about HIM no one else, its him calling himself out. He knows hes a Liar, which is why it takes one to know one. He knows it now...the island is just a seclusion he is forced into because he lies alot...he can barey afford it...because he gets to depressed, he lies for attention. He is the party! when he doesnt have attention he gets depressed, and does something stupid to get it. thats why hes an addict for dramatics, when you are a dramatic person it all has to do with caring too much, he confuses all that attention for love, and gets people attatched to him, than says: "what you dont do it too" so he calls us out as well, like uh uh..you cant tell me that you dont beg...Liar!

I think it has something to do with love & the girl moving to what could be New York City. island = manahttan island?

"Then back on that island That you swear by Still barely can afford" --sounds like the typical 'girl runs off to new york city to find her self and the dude is sad' kinda story.

"All our secrets they are tailored trouble Draped loose now around your hips" is something i took as her keeping their secrets at her side/thrown to the side

thoughts?

ps- this song is amazing!

Its obviously about someone being a person who doesn't tell the truth most of the time. Otherwise known as, a liar.

Wow you guys are looking to deep into it. Its about liars plain and simple. By choir boys, he means pure and innocent people.

i think its about them trying to write/record an album, they have 26 days to get it all done and all theyre doing is fighting over it. which is where the comparison to lotf comes in. And how someone gets overly dramatic over it and tries to put it off as their love of something (writing). I believe after john and shaun left they made a comment about splitting because all they did was fight about who would write what and never got anything done.

Like your thoughts. But I can't picture "All our secrets they are tailored trouble Draped loose now around your hips Your spotless instincts are valid We co-exist" Having anything the do with the bandmates. Unless they have had intercourse. Note, Co-exist. Whats an artist but to make multiple meanings though.

Seems to simply be about a girls he has met on tour; the groupies. He is speaking directly to them saying "we both know this won't last long. " Yet still being captivated by love (sex). Probably happened often on tour so he would label himself a "liar" because if they all keep score of the poon they got, it would be there secret. "we're all choir boys at best." <----the lie. Intrusive and arrogant to further support this. Lord of the flies is a good theory, and he may have thrown a bit of insight to his influences. But lets be honest, what is more likely. A song about someones' literature or an actual feeling of guilt and honesty penned on paper.
